Yeah, you definitely don't need to crank for that long.

I cranked it for 8 seconds 3 times, in order to prime my oil line going to to the turbo.
I then connected my CAS back up, cleared the check engine light (which came on because the CAS was disconnected) and she fired right up.

this.

beat the **** out of it.

my motor had exactly .9 miles on it when it went onto the dyno and ran 40psi through it.

I mentioned priming the oil solely for the turbo so its not a dry start if its a new turbo.

My base oil pressure with no balance shafts on my built motor is between 21-25 PSI at idle.

prime the oil pump before you put the timing belt on , oil cooler connected , blank the feed to the turbo ( you dont want oil pressure in turbo with out it spinning ) put the two timing belt tensioner bolts in hand tight (stops oil coming out through one of the bolt holes )14mm socket and a drill on to the oil pump sprocket , turn clockwise till it primes the full system.

when you fire it up check for coolant /oil leaks if alls ok run @ 2k for 15 to 20 mins mins , change oil and filter use running in or mineral oil suitable for turbos . drives it sensibly use boost and revs but no wot throttle stuff , change oil at 250miles / 550 /850 using mineral

i followed the Buschur approach and thats also what my mechanic did...

Within 2-3 miles (drive around the shop) and ony oil change we got 560 awhp on pump and the next day i went to the track and ran my first 130 mph pass! The motor had less than 100 miles in total in cluding dyno time, and driving to the track...

Within 200 miles i was running 30 psi on pump at the track pass after pass...
