Check your timing. I had the problem once and timing belt was off. Luckly didn't bend anything. Or try the jumper cable on the starter. Maybe the wire is oxidized.

You can turn it over by hand endlessly and it's turning smoothly and freely?

How old is the fuel? High compression build? Could even be pre-ignition causing it to kick back, seen it before.

Fresh fuel. 9:1 compression

Always easier to rule things out. Check ground from motor also. Make sure it's grounded properly since motor was replaced. Easy things to miss

Just for ****s and giggles, have you tried bypassing the starter solenoid and seeing if it cranks continuously then?

Thought behind that, just to clarify, is that it could be a fault in the solenoid trigger circuit, be it the ignition switch, starter relay (I believe it's a normally open relay tied into the immobilizer circuit?), or the wiring itself, the latter being the least likely on a vehicle this new.

Again, ****s and giggles. As stated, the more random-*** crap we can rule out the better.

cmspaz is right... rule out the easy things before tearing things apart.
now when you say "something is stopping it" does the motor fire at all?
do you have a built head? and are you running stock injectors, and what tune are you running? you could be have a problem with pre-ignition of the air/fuel mixture
