AMS VSR intake removal pointers?

I'm trying to pull my engine from the car.. but to access the rear engine mount I need to remove the intake mani first..

how is one supposed to remove the bolts underneath each of the runners?

AMS's instructions on the website are pretty useless...

anyone have any tips?

thanks

Time to get a swivel socket or a crows foot or a universal joint. Either way, it sounds like it's time to get some new tools.

I used a ratching box end for the ones I could reach..

i have 1/2" drive universal joint as well as T bar with universal joint and permanent 12mm socket on the end..

theres no room between the firewall and the end tank to get in there.. only hope seems to be from the tranny side...

nightmare

and i still have to deal with the whole drive train after..

*arghh*

It shouldn't require instructions. You know how it bolts to the head, you obviously need to make some more room to access those nuts. Start taking more stuff off, get better angles, etc.

And they want their parts on your car, noboby makes instructions to remove their parts.

I realize that.. normally I don't read instructions..

but I didn't want any RTFM posts either.. so I wanted to dismiss the obvious..

they don't have installation instructions either..

most of the manual is how to remove the stock intake..

not to install theirs..

"19. Install new intake manifold using new gasket and tighten all bolts. "

thats all it says.. for installing it..

they make it sound like it's on an engine stand lol..

When I had the AMS VSR on my galant, I just used a swivel, and some extensions. The swivel that I had was the nice one that looks like a ball and cup(nut sure real name is). I would stack up the extensions until I hit a good spot. You can also use a box end to break them loose.

I would put all the top onces back in, it will make the bottom ones come out easier and you should be able to remove them with your fingers.

I hope that helps more than my smart *** comment above .

Yeah, I see what you mean, good point. I'm sure you would have gotten that comment too so it's probably a good thing you mentioned that. I'll also admit that I haven't worked on a car w/ the VSR so it could be a little more cramped in there than I imagine. Sounds like your best bet is to try some "tight-spot" tools like mentioned above with swivels and extensions. Maybe a smaller wrench or 1/4 drive if you haven't tried that. Good luck.
