the car also falls on its face when that happens, do you think the turbo is fried?

Check for shaft play you may have a bent fin.

sounds like a boost leak, I think if it were the turbo the sound would be constant. Let us know what you find

i took off the intake today and the turbine spins very freely, no noise at all. i also retightened the j pipe and still same problem. i had an issue when installing, the j pipe was touching the starter and causing it to smoke when i connected the battery. so i used the jack and slightly bent the j pipe away from the starter. ( i needed the car really bad and i couldnt wait to order a new pipe. the j pipe is slightly bent and not equal width because i didnt use a pipe bender. do you think that this little kink would cause this problem? i never try to do **** like this but i was getting really impatient and i was fighting the car the whole time i installed this turbo.

i contacted forced performance to order their evo 9 turbo outlet, im waiting on their reply. my car is using a turbo xs 3.5 intercooler with their pipes, the coupler from the j pipe to the downpipe has a little kink in it aswell.

thanks for all the help guys, if anyone has any further ideas or help it would be greatly appreciated!

Did the short to the starter terminal put a hole in the jpipe? Also crushing that j pipe with a jack "could" have bent the flange.

almost, it put a little bubble in the j pipe about .5in in diameter but it didnt burn all the way through. i would hope and pray that all this is is a bent flange... i fell like such a newb since this has never happened to me in the past (dealing with heads/cam ls1's, forced induction is so foreign to me...)

The evo8 J pipe will touch the starter when installing an IX turbo. Are you sure that the pipe you had on there was the IX pipe and not the VIII pipe? This is the whole reason the IX j pipe is used when installing a IX turbo
