More dumb advice coming from you...

The transfer case is not the weakest part. He actually has a VERY strong transfer case since he has a IX. Its the 2003 VIII's that has issues with the spider gears. LOL! Rear diff?! Are you stupid? The rear diff is the last thing that fails on these cars. You should know what you're talking about before giving out advice that you have no idea of.

To the OP'er, I wouldn't worry about your T-Case unless you drag race your car every other weekend. Then I would do the SIMPLE Shep rebuild just for extra insurance. Since you have a IX, you already have the LSD that holds up just fine.

The transmission however, I would definitely rebuild while its out. There's a lot of revisions that need to be done that Shep takes care of to prevent certain problems to surface. The roll pin coming off for one which will leave you without certain gears and you'd have to take the trans back off to fix.

If you're coming up on 60k miles why wouldn't you replace the OEM TOB? You'd be stupid not to. Its a bearing, they wear out.. If you only had about 20k miles, then yes I'd say you could reuse it.

if you have the 6, just get the kit from shep to do the swap. round 500 bucks and then get a 5speed transmission from shep/buschur or tre. THey all do good work. The 6 speed can't handle high wtq. DO the clutch and trans, but don't waste money rebuilding 6speed, swap to a 5

If I am not mistaken the six-speed is only rated to 290 ft-lbs.

Depends what you do with the car. Road racing and lots of high-rpm driving will cause it to heat up quite a bit more than usual, which is the real problem with the 6-speed. Supposing you don't beat on the tranny and shift it nice and smooth I believe it usually holds up just fine up to around 350 wtq.

Wow just 350? Well that sucks. Thanks though. Adding that to my list of to-dos before power

As always, your mileage will vary. Just because I said that doesn't mean it'll blow up the second you dyno 351 wtq.

I have 387 wtq on 6speed, but either way, going to a 5 is best. Id say enjoy your car at 350wtq and when you want more wtq, fully build the car. Its the only way to have a reliable high torque car. I'm losing tons of tq because I'm trying not to blow my motor/trans, but once swapped I can crank it up and damage all the passengers necks
