new evo viii, and its gonna be epic!

so i just purchased a 2003 EVO VIII about three weeks ago. it leaks oil, has only one seat, an wont idle unless your on the gas. So i ordered a buschur racing 2.4l for my DD engine (arrived a few days ago), and will be building a 2.3 for my track engine. ordere I am in the process of prepping the car for fresh parts. now my question to you guys is if im shooting for anywhere between 550 and 625 whp for the dd, what turbo/cam setup would you run? i will be using race gas as well so keep that in mind

You going to swap engines just to go to the track? You have more motivation than I

I run around 530whp on a stock block with a GT3582r old style turbo and mild old school hks 272 cams.

I am sure with a 2.4, the newer HTA3582 would be more than enough for your power goals and a HTA3586 would gaurantee you get there no problems, but a little more lag. Cams wise, everybody seems to recommend the S2 cams GSC I think? I haven't kept up on newer cams, but I did recently read the new HKS 274/278 cams are pretty nice as well. 2.4L, HTA3586, S2/new hks cams, intake manifold, burschur double pumper with 1450 or 2150 FIC injectors and call it a day. Easy 600+whp and enough fuel system to run E85 if you ever want to.

Oh yea and some valve springs too, I just use cheapo special brian crower springs and rev to 8600rpm no problem, but I do have a mild cam lift. If you want ultimate insurance in valve springs, just get the kiggly ones.

I think I'm just going to have buschur do there stage 3 cylinder head and I'm going to do some more research on the cams. I am leaning tward the 3582 because it's gonna be primarily on the road, and with lots of supporting mods and e85 or 116 octane it will be enough for the streets. What about intakes and IC's for that power level? Any recomendations?

A lot of people go with Magnus for the intake manifold and I know the AMS V1 is really nice, although a bit pricey. I am sure all the main stream intake manifolds out there do decently.

IC wise, you can go with any of the big brands out there, I would just make sure it is bar and plate design. I personally have the APS (Air Powered Systems) IC and it works great, but I am sure the one from Burschur or AMS would be just as good if not better. There are probably other ones out there I am forgetting, but I don't research them because I already have a decent one.

Two motors...

Maybe you should spend the money from one of those motors on suspension, brakes, transmission, transfer case, clutch...

well i got a 2.4l and will be getting a cylinder head from buschur, and i enjoy building motors so thats exactly what im going to do. i have a good core so why not? this is my first import so its a fun project. the 2.4 will be my street engine and if i ever decide to do some serious track time then il swap them out. and i will be doing brakes, TC, clutch, suspension, CF parts, cage, transmission

Use a 2.0 for drag. My setup is has too much torque, its hard to get traction. Imo the bra 82 isn't worth getting. The hta86 makes more power with almost no loss in spool. Then the fp black spools faster than the hta82 and makes about the same power.
