Turbo question?

So my buddy just picked up a 06 ix, on stock turbo

He is looking to go bigger turbo but doesn't want to go crazy big. His goals are to reach 460whp on 93+meth

His supporting mods are as follows

Kelford 272's
Fmic
Intercooler piping
Full 3" tbe
Clutch
880cc injectors
Stock ecu
Stock maf
Intake
Intake manifold
Throttle body

Stock block-stock head other than cams

He wants a turbo that has good mid range with great top end.

He was looking at the fp series possibly fp black.

Wondering if you guys think that's a good choice or something not as big would be good

Thanks

I would personally recommend the MAP EF-series, probably the EF3 since it will easily hit your power goals while still being very responsive and relatively quick spooling. Myself and a lot of other locals have been getting great results out of them.

It depends entirely on what he wants out of the car... a target HP number is an "ok" starting place, but depending on fuel and motor he could have a very laggy setup to reach that peak number, and would overall be a lot happier with something more responsive. Is the car a daily driver, drag car, road racer? Great mid-range and great top end with 460+ whp is not going to happen on the stock block with 93 octane. If he has access to E85 or is planning to build the motor first it opens up some other options.

^just looked them up seems like a nice turbo - I'm not used to the new turbos that are out there now. When I had my evo the best was to do a hta to ur turbo. Now I see precision 5857 lol I need to start learning.

So prob between fp series or ef series

He should be close to that on a FP Black shouldn't he? As long as he is under 400ft-lbs it should be a safe number correct? I don't see why he couldn't reach 450 on pump.

It will be a street car not a Daily car but doesn't want it to be stupid sloppy on the street. He plans on running 93+meth

He is looking for a 440-460whp range quick spool good top end

Also will drag it every so often

I know ppl on stock Ix turbos on 93+meth they r pushing the 440 mark

This is a grey area man, Any time you hang a bigger turbo off a stock block and tune for low end torque over 450+ ur takin a chance...(some people do it without problems and some go kaboom)... The black is probably a bit laggy for a street car on a stock block imo and you're not gonna be able to safely make the power that the black is capable of.... My tuner made 470hp/not sure on tq with an fp green on e-85 at 32 psi with close to same mods as u except more fuel ( i think he used 1200cc injectors). So If ur gonna go with forced performance turbos which is what i'm gonna go with. I'd go with like a red and I'd say on 93 and meth u should be close to those numbers with a decent tuner and be a lot more fun to drive on the street......but if u like more lag and a bigger hit go bigger and just have it tuned safe for ur stocker.....

^ I was looking at the reds too. Ya I want it to be a fun street car with minimal lag. I personally used to own a 35r evo and that was too much for street you would punch it and wait and wait lol then pow right in the kisser lol

But ya stock motor with 93+meth prob tuned by Ivey- would like it to be as close to 440-460 whp mark and good tq number.

I know the stock 9 turbo with pump and meth can see the 440whp mark but die out for top end - so I want a nice street turbo minimal lag with good top end

What about the DBB HTA Green? Seems like the ultimate street turbo with minimal lag and great top end.

Red or black sir. The black will leave you room to grow and its safer on the stock motor since it spools later and makes less torque than a red at the same whp rating. Also be careful on meth. I hate it and know a lot of guys that have lost motors because of meth. 93 on the back you can do 440-450 with your mods. No need for meth sir. Lmk if you need anything.

Mikey has been in the FP game probably longer than any one else. If you're going to listen to anyone's advice, I'd listen to him. He also will hook you up on a killer deal. Just sayin.

I would say 93 and meth with good spool, I like the BBK full. Not laggy at all, or even a FP green.
