I have decided to do a 2.4L on my EVO and keep my original shortblock off to the side incase I blow the built motor. Cant wait to see how it does. Still deciding between a long rod and a std rod 2.4. I need to learn more about longetivity effects of shorter piston skirts before I decide. I also want the lowest expansion pistons so I can do a tight tolerance build. I hate blowby and piston slap.
Even if you blow it... you're better off selling your shortblock right now, and buying another 2.4L when it goes. Intact 4G63's go for a premium. I would put the money back into the car.

I agree but owning the original motor that the vin #'s match the car is something worth something to me. I will prob end up selling it though because I am poor but I would RATHER not.

I dont have a back to back between mine, I changed cams between the 2.2 and 2.4 though I suppose it would show spool difference.

This will be the best option with any long stroke motor. The LR2.4 I have only taken to 8900 so far. The motor that is in the car this year will be more akin to a long rod version of Dave's 2.3RPM. I still dont plan on revving it over 9300 though. With the auto having 4.13 gears it wont be needed anyway...or shouldnt if things go according to plan.

anyone have experience with 2.4 LR with small turbos? (stock, bbk full, HTA71 etc...)
I am getting the ER 2.4 LR as we speak,(BTW ER's customer service is beyond awesome) but i dont think my turbo (HKS 7460) will even hit 450hp because it is so small.
I love the quick spool of HKS even on 2.0 and hoping it will spool faster with 2.4.
I would just want some feedback from guys who have 2.4 with small turbos.
Another Q is with Aarons magical tuning skills it could hit 460\460 on ER's Dyno?
That is my goal because this is my DD with little bit of PIR track days.
thanks guys

kind of a tough call, since a lot of the turbo manufacturers don't post turbo maps to see where you engine is going to fall into teh efficiency range. I think there is a point where you're throwing so much at the small turbo it would be making more power even in the lower RPMs with a bigger turbo.
Unless you're strapped for cash, you could always just use the turbo you currently have which isn't going to cost anything extra. And if it isn't what you want, now you KNOW it's not what you want. otherwise you may always be wondering.
I had the same decision to make with a 2.4, i considered staying small. But i can only imagine overspinning a little BBK like crazy at 7.5k rpm on a 2.4L.
I say try it out, and worst case you decide to upgrade, and have no regrets. I'd be interested in seeing the results. This just a street car?
