Differential Clunk fix opinions.
Hi, I just purchased an Evo IX 2 months ago and Im very new to the car.
I read up on what causes the clunk and the many options people have to fix the problem.
I don't want any solid bushings//mounts, etc in my car and wanted it all to be as factory as possible to keep the comfort level intact.
So I purchased the factory rubber "washers" for the side supports but of course that didn't do anything. Before I removed the supports I didn't know the side support had that rubber bushing inside, I obviously thought the 2 washers were the bushings just by how it looked in the IPC.
Anyway, long story short I want to buy replacement bushings to remove the clunk but I really want something that isn't too harsh and isn't going to drive me nuts on the highway. What is the most popular product that the community uses for daily driving?

I bought the energy suspension diff
And mustache bushings. I just received them last night and will be installing them today. All I'm really hoping for is that it doesn't make it loud. A friend suggested making a rubber "washer" out of hockey pucks to go between the energy suspension washer and car frame. I may do that also.

So I installed the bushings.
They aren't noisy like I've read in other threads but my clunk is still there. I have center bearings I was going to install and the mustache bar bushings. Hopefully that clears te clunk up.

I'm about to finish buttoning things up but I've arrived at an issue. My mustache bar doesn't line up to the differential.
Could I have done something wrong? It appears that the bolt holes are off by maybe 1/8" to the left of the differential. They line up vertically but not horizontally.
The subframe is all bolted back up and so is the sway bar and exhaust.
Was the mustache bar supposed to be bolted to the diff before lining it up with the subframe? I honestly dont want to unbolt everything again. Is there any special trick to this at all?

It's a little tricky when putting it back in. Most of the time, it won't line right back up if you tighten the main rear diff bolts first.
If you just thread in the diff bolts in a little just to hold up the diff (don't thread the bolts all the way), you can get a jack under the diff and jack up the diff to line up the rear bolts with the mustache bar holes. After you get those rear bolts in and lined up, tighten the diff bolts then the rear bolts.
I don't know how much easier it is to install it with the mustache bar already on the diff as I never dropped my mustache bar to drop the diff before.

Ok. Finally. This job was a PITA!!!
I loosened up the diff side mounts and finished the job.
Clunk is gone. There is barely any drivetrain noise now. It used to be loud and I think it was bad center prop bearings.
I highly recommend those polyurethane bushings for those that want to stay as close to factory specs as possible.
Thanks for the help everyone.

sorry to revive an old thread but which exact parts did you buy ?
- rear diff bushings ?
- moustache bar ? is that a sway bar? sorry for the newb question?
- anything else ?
Thanks in advance !

The mustache bar is not a sway bar. On the back of your differential, there is a bar that supports your differential in the shape of a mustache, hence the name. It's ridiculously thick and many people eliminate it for weight.
