hi guys,
i was just about to tune my car when a new question of concern came up, do i have head studs?I don't currently and i am on a budget so having to get this now is gonna throw me off my budget.Do i need this now?I want the car the run around 27psi safely without anything breaking.I bought my car a few month back and car hasn't seen more than stock boost.these are my few mods:
3" tbe
helix 02 housing
Walbro Feul pump
Smc meth kit
K&N intake
NGK 1 step colder
Evo 9 bov
Hallman MBC

You will definitely sleep better at night knowing that you have them.

 

Running 27 PSI, I would say absolutely.

Especially since ARP head-studs are only $100. If your on a budget, think of it as cheap insurance. What's cheaper, head-studs or running the risk of your head lifting?

im running 27psi for 4 months now,still all good.
i dont think u have to have them right away,but it's always better..
just ordered mine!

All in all replacing them would be the rt thing--- depending on how you replaced them. If you take the head off---then your good to go and thats the best way to do the job. Others will tell you that doing the 1x1 replacement works-- others will say it works sometimes and not to do it that way.
So how were you thinking about having it done?

 

If you have a decent tuner there is no need. Doing the budget 1x1 method CAN be trouble.

If you have a decent tuner you shouldnt have any issues at all.

Case in point I'm running ~29-30 lbs and still on oe head bolts. I have L19's sitting ready to go just havent found the need to go replace for fun...

 

No you dont need studs, unless you are planning on doing a headgasket job.

 

^This. You only NEED head studs if Big Al tunes your car.

 

Isn't this more of a DSM thing that somehow carried it's way over to the Evo? I could be wrong, but I'm usually right twice a day (broken clock)

 

Its more a bad tuner thing.

As mentioned the sea of 8s doesnt help detonation or cylinder pressure and was causing HG issues. Jeremy, you have run how much on stock head studs? 33-34psi? I have run as much as 36psi when my car was stock motor (and headstuds) on E85, we ran 38psi on Jakes, and I made 574 on pumpgas on stock headstuds.

 

Can it be done without? Absolutely. Cheap insurance to swap them? Absolutely

 

Block tuning? What you mean 20+* out the top on pump is a bad thing?

Yes sir - I think we pushed the BBK a little past >33psi and >30psi on the Black as well.

 

ive ran 30psi (FP green) for a few years on stock headstuds. it wasent until I spiked at like 34psi did I float the head.
