I kno some that run them even tighter on mild e85 builds. This one should be quiet as a mouse and be minimal on oil consumption

So will .0045 be quiet and not consume oil?

Any motor run at higher boost with larger PTW will consume oil, it's just one of those things. Like tires or brake pads.

4.5 is fine for higher power motors.

BTW, checked all my tolerances tonite, 3 thou it is for all 4!

And for the record, Manley calls for 3.5thou on their coated pistons, 4 without coating

I think since the pistons are coated. I should tell the machine shop to do .004? Or should I leave it at .0045?
Thanks guys.

I would stick with 4.5 if you ever plan to actually hit 800

I called Wiseco tech. support 2 weeks ago about this same question and I'm using coated 1400HD's for my HP goal of 700+ I was told between .0045" to .0055" so I went with .005"

This info is also available on that reddish piece of paper they include with each individual piston.

if you plan on 800whp, i would go to .005". looser is better than too tight. too tight will destroy the engine. too loose will make a little noise and consume a little more oil. .005" is not even that loose.

Just for the record, the 2.3 car I did with 3 thou is still running great. Makes right around 450whp, 430 when road racing. Has done a full weekend plus a few thousand street miles so far. Most motors won't/shouldn't be built this tight, but it's fine for lower power setup.
