Hi, im helping a friend to find the piston wall clearance for his 2nd hand mahle piston.

What are you asking? What should he use? Or what it is currently? He needs to measure his bores.

 

I have mine at .0028. The first 4g63 I built I set them at .0033 and had a lot of piston slap when on E85. Mahle pistons do not expand as much as the other manufacturers. IIRC the suggested PTW is .0023-.0033 but you're better off calling them since it has been over 2yrs. There is another guy on here that likes Mahle also (94awdcoupe)?

 

i've just built my engine with Mahle 86mm pistons.
They are hard to measure because of the skirt coating on them.

I machined my bores to 86.000mm and put them in, that is what Mahle told me to do.
The coating is an inconsistant thickness so if you machine the bore to suit the piston skirt, it will not be accurate.
