EVO 1 to 9 Rear LSD questions
Hey Guys,
needing a little help regarding the Stock Rear Lsds...
From what i can find...
evo 1 came with a viscous lsd with the option for a mech LSD
evo 2 and newer are Mechanical LSDs,
and 2/3 are the same
and the 4-9 are the same
and from what i can find using Mitsi ASA/Caps the 2/3 and 4-9 all share the same part number,
SO they should all be the same/interchange (apart from the gear ratios) from 2-9
correct me if im wrong please!!
Now my question is, how can you tell the difference between a evo 1 mech LSD and a Evo 2+ mech LSD?? or are these the same aswell??
basically i need to build a New LSD diff for me Legnum VR4,
and i can use the EVO 4+ LSD center with my crown/pinion/casing.
but im having trouble finding a LSD center at a reasonable price
all i can find is a evo 3 mech LSD (apparently as the current own bought it as a evo 3 part, but hasnt used it and he cant tell the difference)
also i want to put the weir Performance 12 plate kit in it...
does this fit in? the earlier evo 2/3 lsd??
Thanks
Carsten

yes i have already sourced a replacement open diff and shafts.,
to replace the 4th AYC i just destroyed
Great... so i can just bolt in the LSD unit,
now just wanting to confirm what LSD im getting exactly...
how can i tell what model evo the Plate diff is from?
or are all the evo 1-9 rear plate diffs the same?
and can i use the weir performance 12 plate LSD kit in it? which is sold as a evo4-9 kit

the OEM part number for the plates is the same for the 3 and the US 8 so you should be able to use the Weir plates in a 3 diff.
The differential's themselves are the "same" though the outer casings differ.

you can put E3 differential in non ayc diff, leaving ring and pinion of non ayc diff and your ratio would stay 3.312 but if I'm not mistaken and AYC diff has 3.323 ratio, how are you going to match it ?

the open diff is from a non-turbo STR legnum, with the same Ratio.
(its the same as the Legnum VR4 type-V non ayc diff)
in the 8th gen galant/legnum 4wd's we do not have to worry about swapping rear diffs as there all the same ratio between the variations
turbo/non turbo, ayc or not, there all 53/16 = 3.3125
ill only be using the lsd unit from the evo with the STR housing/crown/pinion/shafts
ANYWAY......
Last thing i need to clear up....
can you tell the difference between a EVO 1 and 3 Mechanical LSD???
if so how? or are they the same??
the donor LSD unit is only allegedly from a E3 not deffinately
thanks for all your help so far

1's had viscous unit, different length driveshafts etc. forget about it
2-3's are the same, no difference
p.s. can't quite understand, what's the rar diff ratio of VR4 AYC diff ?
and one more, will vr4 non ayc diff bolt up straight to ayc subframe

yes. in the 8th gen vr4,
both ayc and non-ayc diffs are the same ratio. 3.312
and the mounts are all the same in the sub frame. so its all a direct bolt in job...
did thee EVO 1 not have an option for a mech LSD??

yeh thats what i thought,
in asa the evo 1 is the only LSD to have a different part number,
bought the unit anyway, i hope its correct.
no one can tell me if its the same part, or how to tell them apart.

well it all bolted together without issues,
removed the Evo 3 LSD unit from its original home,
bolted the the crown from the Legnum STR to the Evo 3 LSD,
then refitted it the STR housing, (which got a lick of paint to pretty it up )
so now i have a 3.312 LSD rear diff that will bolt directly into my Legnum VR4....
