Question Do I need a IX turbo?

Hey guys. Had my car dynoed back in February and with my evc 6 set on 25psi it made 350awhp and 356awtq. Running stock map. Hks 272 cams. Ets 3.5" intercooler with full piping. Hks short intake. And greddy tbe. Been reading up on the limit of the stock 8 turbo. I've read 370-380 is max. But I've got a buddy that has a 9 makin around 550 and he says I should be fine since I'm running an upgraded intercooler setup. Looking into buying a Evo 9 turbo from a forum member here shortly. But I'm not sure if it's really necessary or not. Any tips would be appreciated. TIA.
PS-I'm already aware that it needs a good tune for the stuff I have done already but I'm wanting to wait until I decide if I want a 9 turbo or not.

550 on pump gas with the stock motor is not doable with a IX turbo. So forget that dream. First establish what your power goal is. Did you make your 350 on pump gas? Is ethanol fuel available in your area? Does your VIII turbo already have a 10.5 hot side on it? The cams are holding you back. As you know the stock map is holding you back significantly as well. I am surprised that you don't reach fuel cut at 25# on the stock map.

Like I said though...550 is not doable even on race gas and even on the friendliest dyno to be found. I call your friend's claim fudge. Unless he has an extreme, fully built motor with mondo cams and revs to 9200. Still I think that 550 on the stock IX turbo is fudge.

Yeah 550 is a little rediculous. I had 314whp and I forgot the torque at 24psi on the stock VIII turbo. I then switched to the IX turbo, O2 dump, LICP and injectors and now it makes 340ish on pump gas. Switching over to e85 next week so It will go up a bit. It was on a mustang dyno which reads lower than dynojets but itsn't a big heartbreaker.

If your goals are beyond 450 on an dyno.. Don't bother with the IX turbo. Get something you can make good power with without running really high boost.

I make over 400AWHP on a dynojet on a 8 turbo and E85. So 370-380 is definitetly not the max!

I made 350 on 93 octane. It was knocking a bit do to the stock map. Te guy said he could tune it and get 370-380 out of it. It has the oem 9.8 hot side on it. And what do you mean te cams are holding me back? And not sure about the e85. If it is available, it's not widely available near me. And as far as my friends car, he's running a gt35 turbo on his, head work, bottom end work, and extensive tuning, but is claiming 550 on a "virtual dyno". Lol. I've never witnessed it. But I rode in it before he had the gt35 turbo and it was pretty quick. I would like to be at least 400 and running 7.60-7.80 1/8th mile. I'm at 8.10's now. This car I also my dd though. So I don't wot to hit 400hp and then have my turbo go out. And I have the money to get a IX turbo, but that money could also go towards a comp stage 3 clutch or a dyno tune. And I don't know which I want.

Also the last time I went to the track. Set my boost controller to 36psi. The peak hold was 33.1psi. Never experienced fuel cut. But can't run to the full potential due to my cheap clutch setup. Now I have to double clutch my 3rd gear or it grinds worse than a stripper on a pole. And can't slam 2nd. I'm thinking my pressure plate is definitely too weak.

You ran 33 psi? on 93? on a stock tune? and your running the car on stock tune when it has knock?

Your driving a ticking time bomb.. on a short fuse

well which is most important your car driving down the road? or a hp bragging number?? Personally id address the clutch issue first. Put a good clutch in. From what someone said about your cams holding you back, i agree. I ran hks 272 cams in and while they were good for some low end and midrange punch they definitely died off in higher rpms. When I swapped to gsc s2 cams on my 03, midrange and top end significantly improved. As far as turbos go if your goal is over 400 hp, dont do a ix turbo. by the time you hit over that goal your out of the efficiency range of the ix turbo, now that part is a ticking time bomb. Im curious why in the hell on 93 octane would you set your boost controller to 36 psi. Your askin for trouble with that. So to reiterate, clutch first. Then do a set of cams with a turbo and dyno tune after.

Well I drive the car everyday with the boost set below stock. And it still spikes to 22psi. But I don't rape my car everywhere I go. So when I got to te track maybe once every month and a half I like to see what I can do with it. I only ran it once on 33psi. I know it's not a safe limit to run at all. But my plan is to either get a tune for $400 or a 9 turbo for $550. Don't know which route to go just yet.

well to be honest like i said do your clutch first. Then from there get a dual map tune, one on pump gas, one with either e85 or race gas. Use your intercooler sprayer switch to switch maps. Wait on the ix turbo because its really not gonna give u the big difference your thinking, your better off going with an fp or cbrd turbo, still looks stock but with a lot more power potential.

Thanks for that man. Great advice. How exactly would I go about getting the sprayer switch to work like that? I've been eyeing the fp red setup. Just a lot of money I don't have right now. Lol

ask your tuner its a simple matter of rewiring the switch and modifying part of the ecu rom for the dual map. The fp red is a nice turbo honestly. Im running it, the og 64mm been running it for like 35k on pump gas at about 26 psi and made 413 hp in the middle of summer time. Fun fast, and i hit full boost by about 4100. which isnt laggy at all with a lot more top end punch.

Well if you don't have money for a red, i would do the clutch and a tune. And enjoy it the way it is til you can afford the upgrade.
