hey guys what would be the torque setting for the arp main studs with motor oil? i know its 60ftlb with moly lube but i dont have any on hand .......would love to know

 

70 ft/lbs. Did a lot of searching myself when installing mine.

 

You can always call ARP for verification, they are very helpful.

beware of just chucking studs in without checking clearance change!

Na it's a new motor and it's been line honed.... I was checking main bearing clearance and numbers were .0015"

 

Was it line honed with the ARPs torqued to 70ft/lbs? That will be an issue if not, you can't just throw in a set of main studs in a block that was line honed for the stock bolts and expect the bearing clearances to be the same and the crank not to bind.

 

That's a good point! I didn't think of that so I asked and they were torqued to 45.... Is it ok to go tighter if the clearances are all the same and consistent? Those number I got were using oil for assembly I'm planning to torque to 60ft/lb

 

Also, no, it was line honed with this set of arps...... I just didn't know they had torqued them down to 45ftlb...... However I will torque down to 60 with arp lube

 

I would torque the main girdle down to 60ft/lbs and re-check the clearances.

 

check the clearance @ 45ftlbs, then recheck them at 60ftlbs.

There is no point getting it line honed @ 45ftlbs if you're going to torque them to 60ftlbs, it defeats the whole point of doing the line honing.
