Fresh from honda land .... need assistance and guidance
Hello everyone,
My name is Eric, and I build and race Honda's but I decided to buy an EVO for my wife. It was really for me to drive but what better way to buy something then tell her its for her.
So we purchased a 2003 Evo VIII

I purchased knowing I had to repair the motor. The crank is damaged #3 rod bearing looks like it oil starved and started knocking. The crank looks burnt for inches from the rod. So here lies the real problem, the evo did not appear in Canada until 2008 making finding a motor to get a crank not very easy. I can get a 4G64 from a 2003 eclipse very cheap.
I would put rods and pistons and whatever I need to put in!!!
I have used the search function but I find confusing info.
Here a few pics for fun

Should I use the crank from the 4g64?
Or use the 4g64 block?
Or get a stroker kit?
Should I eliminate the balancer shaft?
What do you recommend very much open to suggestions

If you want 2.4L, get the 4G64 block with the crank.
If you're new to the stroker world, you can get a kit that has everything for you to do it.
Yes, get rid of those balance shafts and replace one of the shafts' with the AMS eliminator kit. I've seen those shoot out of the block before and it is not pretty...

STM, MAP, or the dealership.
Between the 2, I would get the AMS package with I-beam rods if you're planning on running big power.
Otherwise, you can source a 4G64 crank for $225 shipped, pistons $600, rods $600 (unless you went with H-beams, which would be well under $600), bearings and thrust washers $100. That's about $1500 if you make your own kit by buying the parts individually.

To answer your question certain 2.4l blocks will work and others wont so be careful which you decide to choose.
The standard 2.4l crank has been shown to hold up well and there is no need to go aftermarket if you have a good one. Going with longer rods to help stroke ratio is also very popular if you have the cheddar.
You will need to adjust for the timing of the taller deck of the 2.4 block vs. the 2.0,
You will also need a water pump spacer or a modded water pump.
There is a few very good build threads on here that can help you with clearances, etc., if you build it yourself. Here is one...https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-customer.html
Otherwise there are many excellent shops to help out. Everyone has their current favorite. I prefer English Racing due to how much Aaron helps people out and the wealth of knowledge he has.

No, as long as you are using the 4G63 block that comes with a evo 8 you are good to go. The 100mm crank will require different rods, pistons, etc. Just be careful and specific when ordering. There are a lot of great deals in the vendor section.
Depending on the rods you may have to notch the block for clearance.
I also forgot to mention that the 4G64 have a larger diameter cylinder than the 4G63 so some also modify their heads to bowl them out to get the most out the the 4G64.
