Galant STR/VR4 Non-AYC Diff on EVO IV - Possilble

This is what can happen with EVO IV AYC Diff if you launch it several times, this is 2nd AYC diff on my car so decided to go to Non AYC Diff

RS ones that is available on ebay is a bit expensive so got non ayc diff from 8G Galant VR4 and started installation, AYC and Non AYC diff has same 3.312 ratio so in term of drivetrain it should go smooth, all you have to do it to fit it.

Here is a diff itself, removed from 8G Galant VR4, you will also need axles from Galant VR4, note that they are 12mm longer then normal but don't be afraid, they will fit

The problem you will face during an installation is that mustache bar is not fitting bolt on at diff itself, all you need to do is cut the edge of the bar so thet it can bolt on the back of diff properly

After that everything goes smooth and installed just the same way you dissemble it

You can use, VR4/STR or 8G Galant 2.4 AWD rear diff as all of them has 3.312 ratio

good luck

P.S.

Removing AYC is the best process

I used diff from 1998 8G Galant VR4 ear non AYC diff, its has a same gear ratio 3.312 as E4, unfortunately you can not use the same diff on E5 unless you change a gear ratio to match, E5 has 3.307 AFAIK, you can try to use ring and pinion from your AYC diff to match gear ratio, or change transfer box from evo 4 model to have a gear ratios aligned

Also you can use rear diff from EVO 8 if its available, I guess E5 and E8 ratios are the same, double check it

thread back from the dead.
So you're saying all 8th gen Galants 2.4 with AWD can be used in this conversion?
I didnt even know they came in AWD, but if thats the case tracking down one shouldn't be that hard

Hello man... Nice thread.

What do you do with the AYC light on the dash?
I installed an Evo 9 LSD read diff in my Evo 4.... Its the best choice that I do for my ayc problem.

3.307 and 3.312 diffs are interchangable. ratio difference between the two is stupid small. you would get a larger ratio difference from front to rear by driving 500 miles and not rotating your tires.
