1st gear stutter?

Hello,

I'm having a weird problem when engaging into first gear from a stop. It basically stutters. It feels like when you try to drive your car from a higher gear from a stop(your car will stutter like crazy or gotta give more gas). But this happens when I'm trying to go in first gear or sometimes reverse.

Other day was worst, it happend at first gear and it made "POP!". Nothing leak or anything, car drives fine. I thought i broke something.

Is this transfercase making it noise or stutter? Or is it clutch?

By the way, i'm running ACT&resurfaced OEM flywheel.

Hope it is normal for AWD...lol

Are you not giving it enough gas? First couple times I pulled into my driveway which is up hill I wasn't giving it enough gas and the whole car shutters, exactly how you describe; like when you try to start in a higher gear or are in like 5th at 25 mph.

That's what i'm guessing too. But if i give more gas, it seems i'm riding on clutch.

I have a stg3 clutch and lightweight flywheel, mine has terrible stutter if you arent giving it more gas than a stock clutch. its pretty normal. I also have a POP sound when in first/reverse sometimes, I emailed the maker of the clutch, heres the reply:
"The 'clunk' you are hearing is the driveline unloading and coming back to a neutral position. The clunking sound isn't bad in itself but I would look at your engine/trans/diff mounts to see if they aren't worn causing for excess movement."

They said it shouldnt hurt the car at all, but still, it sounds terrible.

Hope this helps!

How old is the clutch and what happened to the stock one? If you burned up the stock clutch then likely the same driving style is affecting this one as well. Normally a stutter is the disc grabbing then slipping and grabbing again--usually caused by hot spots on the PP and fly wheel from slipping it too much or you could have a rear main leak, where oil is on the clutch surface causing the same thing, or a warped fly wheel--again from slipping the clutch and causing hot spots and warpage. More history on your clutch/launching/driving style will help a lot. Be sure you have it adjusted correctly as well as recommended above.

I'm pretty sure clutch is pretty new. Previous owner installed these by shop about 6 or 7 months ago before he sold me the car, and he actually didin't drive the car at all.

I will see check when my shop drop my tranny later for swap.
