ive recently purchased a 2003 evo and was told it could potentially have a built short block. the person i purchased the car from had the head rebuilt after bending some valves at the drag strip. the person who did the valve job had mentioned that after pulling the head he noticed the engine had aftermarket pistons in it. i personally wouldnt put aftermarket pistons in my engine without replacing the rods along with them so i am thinking it could be a built short block. i plan on pulling the oil pan and checking to see if the rods are in fact aftermarket along with the pistons.

i am looking for pictures of the engine internals from the crank side up into the cylinders. i am new to the 4g63 market and dont know what the stock internals look like. if you could post pictures or links to pictures i would appreciate it greatly.

The stock rods are really skinny, you will be able to tell.

 

You would see this at the bottom.

And here it is compared to my Manley Turbo Tuff rod. A lot of aftermarket rods should be the same width except for maybe aluminum rods.

 

You can also post up pictures of yours when you get the pan off. I'm sure someone here in the community can supply you with answers
