Clutch recommendations for a daily 335HP ATW Evo

Sup guys,

Can you recommend a some good value for money clutches to suit a 5 Speed Evo 8 which is used as a daily driver?

Car is making about 335 - 350HP at the wheels.

Ideally I'd want the clutch to be good for some launches, soft pedal feel (like the stock one if possible, but a tiny bit heavier would be OK) and last a fair amount of miles (with a little abuse of course

Prefer to spend under a grand if possible.

Thanks!

I had the OEM clutch and flywheel before but it kept slipping and burning if I tried to slip and launch it.

Only good launch it could do is with a dump.

I ran the stock clutch for 54,000 miles with 30+launches and 10+ autocrosses. This was with much more power than what you're asking for a recommendation. OEM clutch can take a beating for sure.

Not sure what was wrong with mine but it slipped and burnt pretty much every time I launched. Maybe the flywheel wasn't machined properly or something?

That competition clutch looks like a good choice, so it's got stock-like pedal feel? Any reason to go for an OEM clutch instead of the Competition Clutch?

Also, any reason not to get a lightened flywheel on a DD?

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate your advice.

i just put the EXEDY OEM replacement in it, resurfaced flywheel. i drive it for work and broke it in 4 days and over 800miles. slightly heavier then stock( slightly ).

also my current set up dyno'd at 311hp, and yes i do launch it and drive it hard when im bored, clutch holds up well.

Any reasons to go with OEM or OEM replacement Exedy instead of the Competition Clutch 5152-2100 suggested earlier?

Does the revving speed increase with a lightened flywheel justify the driveability loss on the street?

Thanks guys.

clutchmaster stage 3 kevlar on stock flywheel. drives like stock clutch. held 525whp 2.3/ 35r on a buddies car. really nice clutch for 350-400whp. long lasting super smooth clutch. you wont be sorry. car was parted out and clutch was sold to another friend. he raved about how happy he was with the clutch. he drives a lot and this was his forth clutch he tried in his car. he said by far the best. other clutches he had, stock, exedy stage 2, and exedy twin SD.

I've just installed the HKS LA Clutch, which is a single plate clutch rated to 450ps which is around the 300+ kW & 400+ horse power. It has light and easy clutch action much more so than the stock clutch. Nearly all my driving is done in town in heavy traffic, so I find this clutch an absolute champion to drive.

false. I run the exedy lightweight flywheel and exedy oem clutch and it drives like stock. don't go with an aluminum flywheel, go with chromoly. the exedy one is like 2 lbs lighter, it's a decent amount of rotating mass that's cut.

:O.

Have you got the part/model number for that one?

How much did it cost you?

Your comment piqued my curiosity. I mean, it's not often we see someone claiming, "False."

It seems like you bought a 03 Evo in September of '10. Right off the bat, the car had transmission/clutch issues. In January of '11 you posted a transmission rebuild thread showing your progress in repairing the car. On February 3 you offered the Exedy flywheel for sale, and on February 5 you claimed the transmission was back in the car, seemingly with the Exedy installed. With all this in mind, how would you know what a stock cluch and flywheel really drive like?

OP, you can find a multitude of posts describing the effects of lightened flywheels. Search.
