how long did your jb fp red last?

i've had the jb red for a little over two years now, and it finally took a dump got over 70.000 miles out of it about 10 passes at the track one being a 10 sec. and the rest were low 11s. i daily it approx. 95 miles round trip and i will say it lead a hard life. i'm having it rebuilt, pending estimate. so please tell me what your experiances on the jb red have been? thanks in advance

I went out to the drag strip but no road course days. The turbo grenaded the exhaust housing and they wanted to much to make it worth it.

Here is my old thread...https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-my-turbo.html

I loved the turbo while I had it. Only complaint was surging in 5th at low rpm.

I ran 30-32psi of boost since day one. I also only changed from the stock oil line to the first gen ss line fed from the head. After that they came out with the second version with filter and oil list, then feeding from... blah blah blah. It got old and my warranty was already up. So I decided not to upgrade past that first revision. Never used oil off the special list either.

Maybe that is why mine did not last as long as yours?

thanks for the info, i should edit my first post, its been 3 years. i always had the oil line but the oil list came out much after installation. i started with BP then VR1 with the green then it went, i then used RP with the new red but changed every 1800to 2000 miles then the list came out and i've been back to VR1 20-50 ever since. its funny, in regards to oil and oil consumption between my turbo and built engine, car has always used a bit of oil between changes and i always thought it was the engine, being built. but when the red just went i bought a used 9 turbo in real nice condition, and i've been beating the hell out of it this past week and a half, and i check my oil twice a day and this engine with over 70,000 miles does not use any oil what so ever thank god, and thank Devin Schultz at Boostin Performance for building a rock solid 2.0

So you got 70k out of it and many hard pases. And o am sure you would beat on it on the street. sounds to me like you either got or almost got your moneys worth.

^ For sure. Like I said, I loved the turbo. I have thought about going back to a stock frame turbo from time to time.

I just want to see how the new BB options are holding up over time.

thats funny, i originally planned to end up with an 3582 but the more i drove the red daily the more i liked it, so i guess i'm sticking with it. but i may have to go with the bb version as this one might not be worth rebuilding.

I've got so far over 4 years outta mine, over 70k miles, approx 85 miles daily, the first year prob between 50-100 1/4 mile passes, dozens of street pulls, ONLY ran Mobil 1 with the stock oil lines!!!!

So I will NEVER believe the hype about "Mobil 1 failing turbos" or the "MUST run FPs oil line"

I have one on FPs first Reds so it did not come with there oil line. But believe whatever you want

thats preety good, but what kinda boost were you running ? if thats your current trap, thats considerably lower than mine (126) which makes me think you were running more conservitive boost which i would think would add life to the turbo? so yours must be a 64mm mines 80mm. and i agree with you in regards to fps oil list. they went thru a learning process mid stream at our cost.

Sorry I should of mentioned I'm tuned at 27/28psi and on a 64mm housing with crazy surge. I mentioned the compressor surge because this was the first turbo that did that and I've always had the understanding compressor surge kills turbos. Therefore I never expected my Red to last me this long. This just proves the last 2 comments. FPs turbos last and 70k miles I'm not complaining lol

Maybe Robert will come across this thread and ship me a BB Black to "DD test" for them
