noisy at high mph
noisy at high mph
couldent help but to notice last night a low whine sound from my car at around 80mph. i was accelerating lightly in 5th gear from about 2000 rpm and slowly gaining speed and i get this low whine sound not like deathwhine but a faint whine, can it be the fuel pump on a quarter tank, its a walbro 255 car did it in neutral also. just changed my drivetrain fluids also, oem in the rear and t-case and mt-90 iin the tranny, any thoughts? ps. it did not make these sounds in any other gears around town or on other streets. this car is so noisy and drives me crazy lol.
***im still having this sound and im trying to figure out what it is its present during light throttle in 5th and sometimes when you give more throttle pretty much dissapears on decel in gear, you can hear it a bit in nuetral sometimes way quieter then when in gear accelerating, its not a crazy sound like any of those deathwhine videos.***

no i believe they are good though my local shop (friends) checked it out it needed a tie-rod end then it was aligned. idk maybe its the normal rear sound the clutch who knows, it is a act 6puck but the sound was there in neutral i believe. its probably just drivetrain noise but for some reason i need to confirm it. if i toss the car into neutral in say 3rd gear going 50 its quiet and makes no noise, so im rulling out the t-case.

I just posted this a little while back on my other forum:
Been a while since I posted, been running into a weird noise issue that I have spent the better part of 3 weeks trying to pinpoint. Narrowed it down to drivetrain, but from there it's been a complete PITA beacuse the car needs to be under load in order to duplicate so lifting it in the air does nothing.
Noise:
- "howling" noise (sounds like a bearing noise) starts at roughly 27mph and gradually gets louder. Loudest at 60mph but disappears between 64-67mph (I'm not joking...) Comes back after that and then will disappear again after 75mph.
- Noise is present when pushing on the gas or while car is in nuetral at speeds between the ones stated above. BUT if I let off the gas and keep the car in gear the noise goes away.
- Noise happens in all gears as long as it is in between those speeds.
Fixes:
- I replaced the carrier bushings with Torque Solution bushings - while that eliminated the atrocious propeller shaft play I had going, it did not eliminate the noise.
- Next up is carrier bearing assemblies. I have them ordered from Mitsu currently and will be picking them up (hopefully) next week. Then it's time to drop the propeller shaft and get those fixed.
- Ideas...?!?!?!
I am trying to get this done starting with the cheap fixes first but after the carrier bearing assemblies are done, if the noise is still present I'm afraid I'm looking at the big money to start replacing. It would be at this point that I would want to pin point before I start throwing money into things only to find out it does nothing to help what-so-ever.
Any help or anything you guys think might be the cause would be greatly appreciated!
I've elminated everything to do with the brakes (rotors are a little warped but that's not the problem).
Tires are being replaced, found out the front two tires had cords showing so that is probably making more noise which is not helping in my quest to pinpoint the issue, lol.
Wheel bearings are not the issue.
Suspension parts all checked out as tight and nothing out of place or broken.
Drive axles, all 4, are still perfect with no excess play.
No leaks coming from trans, t-case or rear diff.
Alignment in front is off a bit, which was evident with the two front tires showing cords on the inside of the tire ONLY and the rear tires all being worn evenly with no cupping or marks. when the new tires go on I'm thinking it might be alignment time as well, that way I can at least have that out of the way when trying to figure this out!
I found a guy who had the EXACT same problem, he was the one I bought the tires from. He said that his was present for over two years until he had the transmission rebuilt when he fully built his car. The noise was gone after that. He doesn't know what was done to make the noise go away but in this case I would say it's going to be something in the transmission. I still have the noise and am just living with it until it's rebuild time!

My transmission decided to go out on me a few days ago. Whether or not it is related to the noise I don't know. What I do know is that I have full pedal but it will not shift into gear anymore.
Transmission will be taken apart and shifting issue fixed. Also going to see if I can pin point the problem of noise while I'm in there. One thing I am starting to wonder on is the axles and/or seals/bearings. I'll post up anything I find out, but don't expect it anytime soon as the car is in storage and I'm in no mood to work on the car after this last weekend.

The guy up by me had the noise for over two years. When he had his tranny built up and rebuilt to handle his 700+hp Evo the noise went away. They have no idea what they did to make it go away, but it's gone, lol.
was it the faint whine under load in like 5th gear on the highway??? ill get that and if i go to nuetral it will go away but i feel like i can still hear a little something in the driveline maybe the suspension working. But in nuetral for the most part im silent
and its kind of driving me crazy. makes me want to rip my head off this is all windows up no radio so its not extremly loud
5:09-5:15 is the noise im hearing in my car. All throughout the video you can pretty much hear it in the higher gears.

If you read my description I posted in that long post up above that is as exact as I can describe without someone being in the car. It's always there, even in neutral. Only time it goes away for the most part is deceleration while IN GEAR (engine braking kind of) or accelerating.
I've heard wheel bearing, axle, axle bearing, death whine from t-case, bad driveshaft carrier bearings and the list goes on...
I've basically pinpointed it to the transmission, but your noise sounds like it's got different characteristics than mine.

im sort of leaning towards the rear for the most part it does not make the noise in nuetral i hear a small sound at like 100 mph which can be almost anything. for the most part im silent in nuetral. idk anymore i need a drivetrain expert to drive my car lol
