Pulling the head..
Pulling the head..
Hey so im pulling in a few weeks to install headstuds, springs retainers and cams.
I just wanted to double check that I'm getting everything I need,
Oem head gasket
Oem exhaust manifold gasket
Oem intake manifold gasket
My question is do I need that gates timing belt tool if I'm just going to use the Ziptie method and move it out of the way?
And I do have a valve spring compressor.
So of I need anything else?
Thanks Anthony

how many miles are on the car might be worth while to tear down the front of the motor and do a 60k service. If you pull the thermostat housing off you will need a new gasket there, you will need coolant, get some diesel to clean and bleed your lifters. Some assembly lube for the new cams. If it was me I would not trust the zip tie method, especially if you are pulling the head it could easily jump a tooth at the crank.
i managed to do my cam job with the zipties (used 2 and it was fine) and a homemade belt tensioner (super sketch, please use a legit one like the ams one or i guess gates, and YES you need the tool i wouldnt risk anything esp when timing is involved.)
You're already doing "alot" of work as is, why chance ruining it all to cheap out and do the zip tie method. Just my opinion. I wouldn't do it that way. I would install new valve seals, cam seals, etc too while you're in there. Good luck.

you can not rate their holding capacity from boost as there are many different factors involved in what stresses your head studs..turbo flow compression ratio etc. The regular arp head studs are very strong. I use them in my car an I am over 615 to the wheels. I am comfortable with them and don't plan on replacing them any time soon. If I get over 700 at the wheels I may consider it if I begin to see problems. hope this helps.
