I use 3 wave springs and a clutch fork stop. Never had the issue. Over 120 passes at the drag strip and thousands of street pulls in the last 2.5 years.

4xforce started having issues with his clutch and only after a short amount of time, FYI. Not sure if he calls that out later in the thread though.

I would say this clutch had about 1000 miles on it. Maybe a hundred hard shifts. The one that made it pop was no harder and any of the others though.

The push conversion means new clutch and by the looks of it that will set a person back $3000.

The plan is to reinstall with new parts using additional wavy rings and a clutch stop. If it happens again the car will be sold. Nothing worse than not being able to enjoy your modded car for fear it will flatline on you.

Actually you can get a Carbonetic Twin (Push) around $2k, and I think the Comp Clutches twin (also push) is less than $2k.

yeah that certainly sounds like torture..i know when it happened to me the first time i was so mad i was thinking of just selling the car because it was new clutch and alot of other work was just done..if it happens again i will seriously consider letting it go. I dont know what mitsubishi was thinking when designing the tob and clutch mechanism..youd think they would consider this!

I'm guessing they were thinking that the clutch had to, at the most, handle 300tq (at the engine, not wheels) and 7800 RPM.

When you guys install more than one wave spring, youre talking about the wavy part of the clip, installing 3 of those and just one "housing" for the wave spring, correct?

Are there any push style conversions for 6 speed Evo's?

Yep. When you buy the new retaining clip it comes with 2 already, just add one more of the wave washers; that's what I did.

Tranny yanked, issue fixed and car put back together. Reinstalled with three wavy rings and a new OEM throw out bearing. Going to order a clutch stopper tonight as well.

So I've triple ring'd the TOB and added a clutch stop but I still have one final question that I can't seem to figure out.....

Why did my clutch pedal stay on the floor?

When I went for 5h gear, I pushed in the clutch and it went down normal but than stayed glued to the floor. So it pretty much died or bottomed out before I was able to complete the next shift leaving me stuck in 4th gear.

How would a clutch stopper fix a problem that happened when the fork would be inches away from the stopper? Are you saying that the shift to forth popped it off during the recoil leaving the TOB dangling on there till the next shift?

The stopper is supposed to be installed 1/8"-1/4" away from the fork, not a few inches. sounds like you installed it incorrectly.
