Best Flywheel for....
Hello all, I recently dropped the trans on my 04 evo 8 5spd and I was stunned to see my flywheel in terrible condition. Well I just bought the Competition Clutch Stage 2 HD (5152-2100) I need a New flywheel and want to know if i should get a lightweight flywheel and if the flywheel bolts will still work. If I get the lightweight flywheel will it be too much for my DD or will it be fine.
Reason im asking is because i was told leightweight flywheels are only made for racing only and rallycrossing i DD my car but plan to beef it up in the future ive found a 10lb flywheel from ACT Prolight would that be a good choice to go with for this clutch? Comp Clutch hasnt got back to me on what they would recommend(obviuosly their brand)
I have heard the best way to go is with OEM flywheel i have had a fidanza lightweight in my 2g eclipse and never had a problem really but i just order the same clutch for my evo 8 and was recommended since its my DD as well stick with OEM im still in Iraq but were looking at power goals close to 500+ to the wheels so i would say OEM but that's just my 2 cents hope this may help a little good luck man
I would recommend a Fidanza Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel with the replaceable surface. It is lighter than ACT, has amazing throttle response and the driveability is not sacrificed. And say you need to replace a clutch later down the road, you would only replace the surface material. You will of course find a few posts on here with people and bad experiences with different flywheels, but that's just the nature of aftermarket parts. They are not all problem proof. This is just my .02 with an experience with the Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel.
I have used a Fidanza 8.5lb in my 93 talon tsi and loved it pared with an ACT 2100 street clutch kit it was amazing...get into the evo world everything cost more If I get a OEM one its gunna be like +$100 more then a lightweight and ill post pictures of my STOCK EXEDY FLYWHEEL that is just embarrassing

Yup its toast i know but this is what happened to the OEM one...I just got the car almost a year ago and have lauched it about 12 times total this is the nightmare i have witnessed

BTW is the inside shaft that goes to the T case suppose to have some play in it? Its the 2 peice shaft that comes from the transmission itself the outside one is very solid but the inside one is kinda lose?
i have Exedy chrome moly lightweight flywheel. engine rev quick, great for heal/toe. only thing is rpm drop very quick during shift, hard to shift smooth during street driving, unless you shift quick or blip the throttle between shift.

I went with the Fidanza flywheel only because of cost. I would have preferred OEM but wasn't in a position to spend an extra $100. The ACT Street lite I had at the time was trashed.
I have been driving on it with HDSS since last year without any problems. Afraid I'm tearing up the clutch with all the hills in Oregon but so far so good.
