HTA 86 to 6466

Has anyone done this, if so what's the difference in lag and how high do you rev your engine to.

Do you believe it was a good switch, and would you use this on an engine with a rev limit of 8500?

We already know it makes more power, but does the benefit of the power increase out weigh the increase in lag that you pick up between the two?

Thanks for your responses in advance!

I swapped from HTA86 to 6466. Also keep in mind I went from BR BF272 cams to STM650 cams at the same time.

Looking at my old dyno on 100oct and new dyno on E85 I only lost about 150rpm spoolup. I honestly can't tell the difference on the street.

The 6466 is an awesome turbo for sure. Sorry I do not have back to back info

I've ridden in a car with a 6766 that made 900+ and It was pretty laggy compared to the 6466, I would rather have the 6466 for street use. I don't think its a laggy turbo for what kind hp it makes on top. My car already vdr's 728 and its got quite a bit more left on the table.

I agree, if I ever pop my 86 the 6466 will be the next turbo of choice.

It would need to be a 3786 vs a 6466. The turbines need to be roughly the same size even if the inducers arent.

Well with the right combo I can see 820-830s out of a 3586, the 6466 has already made 850 I think.

yea i remember when we were talking about that. but i ended up with the 6466 because i wanted the new style 66MM turbine wheel and the compressor wheel is similar to the HTA86 wheel

You meant 3786 right? FP raised the prices to much for me to experiment. 6466 might be the way to go for most now. I almost want to sell my hta 86 before I break it and get the 6466. We'll see.. A good friend told me to stick it out with the 86 tho

i don't think switching would be beneficial.if you have a good HTA just roll with it.max power is within 100whp of the 6466 for sure, probably within 75whp.seems like i saw an EVO guy making 900+ on the 6466 though.

difference in spool is small probably less than 200rpm,so unless you just have to hit 900whp or your turbo is getting old, i can't see switching.

on the other hand if you are just buying a turbo new,i say 6466 all the way.it makes more power and the lag will be very similar and you save a bunch of dough.i see zero reason to pay more money for the HTA with these new PTE CEA's crushing right now.

Yea that was Aarons thoughts as well, my 86 is basically new, it has 30 miles on it and was bought this past April. We'll see what happens.

in that case, keep it for sure.50-100whp at the cost of a little more lag isn't worth swapping out a perfectly good turbo.
