Engine squeals when cold after 60k

Well I had a 60k service done and I used everything oem except a gates accessory belt , timing and balance belt. Ever since the service was completed I will get a light squealing noise when its either cold out or when the engine temp is cold. Once it warms up it completely goes away, I'm assuming its the cheaper alternative gates accessory belt I went with. Wanted to know if others had this problem and if the belt was the issue or not.

most likely one of your belts are loose.

Yup. Recheck and tighten and it should do the trick.

if you can turn the belt more than a 1/4 turn with your fingers then it needs tightened up.

Hey newbies there is no way to adjust the accessory belt. The belt is tensioned by a spring loaded pulley.

Maybe the the belt is the the wrong size. Maybe the tensioner is toast. Maybe the battery is about gone and the alternator is pulling really hard after a start. Maybe the shop got grease or antifreeze on the pulleys.

to check and see which belt it is:

buy some belt dressing from any parts store, and with the car running and belt squeaking apply a little bit to the rib side. the noise should change or go away- if it does, that is the belt you are looking at the issue on. i have heard you can also use water to do this, but i have not done that method personally. i have used this method to check T-belt as well; although i am not sure it is the best idea, i have done it without ill effect.

as a note- if it is a bearing this will not work, this is for belt noise. but if it's only when cold, it's usually belt noise

i had this issue, sounded much like what was wrong here:

when english did my 60k, they said that it was due to a over tightened t-belt.

good luck.
