sorry for the slow progress and poor pics, but we removed the carrier bearing housing Thrusday and now there is plenty of room.we don't have a lift so it's hard to get good pics as i don't have good light in my garage and the car is on jack stands.

anyway we air chiseled the spot welds on the housing to remove it and it was actually pretty easy.took about an hour, probably take 30 or less minutes on a lift.we were initially going to grind out the area we needed to clear but decided to just remove the entire housing would be easier and less time consuming.

this thread will be slow in updating b/c i am waiting on my short block and the DS won't go in until the motor gets here.

i'll start a new thread and put all the pics in when i'mm finished.

I have money on it breaking, sorry but it's going to happen in the right car. I love to have it for the weight savings but don't want to be in the car when it comes apart.

David, it's unbreakable...

FWIW, I do know that there is a Celica All-trac using one from the same company that is doing like 210mph in the standing mile and 145+ mph traps. He hasn't reported any issues at that level.

The Celica driveshaft is probably very close to the same length as the EVOs and is a 3-piece from the factory as well.

As I tried to say above, it's not that I don't think it's possible, I'm just leery any time someone says "unbreakable" or "no speed limit" when it comes to a driveshaft.

I had one of the first carbon fiber driveshafts ever built for a DSM from I think a company called ACPT maybe, I don't remember. Theirs was unbreakable too, 3.5" diameter. It was a PITA cleaning up the starting line from the pieces when it broke......that was on a sub 3000 pound DSM running 11.0's.

Bringing back some old school memories of former shootouts. That was a long time ago, probably close to 10 years by now. That made a mess!

He's not being rude, he just voiced his opinion and experience on it. I assume this is why AWD made theres a 2 piece and out of aluminum... I'm rooting for it to work but if it doesn't I still have AWD to fall back on

Interested to see how this holds up, and how noticeable the improvements are.

2-piece with a CV joint and a bonding method consistent with what's being done by the OEMs now using carbon shafts. Not as light, but probably has the best chance of standing up to abuse and long term use on a street car.

Just saying...
