03 EVO VIII Radiator

The stock radiator just blew on my 03 EVO. I live in south Texas and the temperature is consistently between 100 - 110 every day here. I am pushing 350 hp to the wheels ans was wondering what the best option for a new radiator would be?
I want it to bolt up to the stock mounts. I could always just get the stock one, but since the heat is extreme here I don't mind going overkill on a radiator if it is going to be that much better. I rather spend the money on it than blowing the motor. If you could give me a few options, I would greatly appreciate it! Oh and if anyone is selling an inter-cooler for cheap I might be interested.

Stock radiators are perfectly fine. You may have another problem if your radiator blew up. Think about it. The only reason a radiator would blow up if its there is an added pressure build up and no release. Either you have a bad thermostat, bad water pump...the car overheated and your radiator cap did not let the pressure out.

Just my opinion.

PS-I've been running my stock rad on my evo for over 2 years with the current set up.

i like the Koyo EVO 4,5,6 radiator for the way the hoses run.but yes stock is fine too.probably the best radiator you could buy would be the Fluidyne for EVO but it's almost $600.

i have a stock radiator and stock intercooler for sale for EVO 8.

I would go mishimoto to save on cost. ITS been 100+ here in Cali ive had mine for a few years, lifetime warranty your car runs cooler then the OEM one. And uses stock mounts.

Thanks for the input.
I planned on changing the thermostat out for sure. I was going to purchase the Mishimoto performance radiator, but if the stock one is good, then I'll just get a stock one.
I was going to buy the Mishimoto racing thermostat, is that overkill to? Should I just stay stock?
How do I test if the pump went bad?
I live in the armpit of america and it is consistently 110 degrees outside or more here.

I was cruising home on the highway, when all of the sudden raiator fluid started to spray all over my windshield. I was about a mile from home so I pulled off and let it cool down. After it was cool I filled the radiator with drinking water from the gas station that I had stopped at, then drove it home no problem. Here is a picture of the leak.

My '03 did the same thing as yours. The rad started to spit coolant and I was able to stop before any damage was done. On inspection, plastic top tank looks like it just got old and brittle and cracked where it met the core.

Fortunately, Chad at CBRD was in the shop and answered my desperate phone call. He had a rad in stock and had in to me in less than 24hours! Great rad, great service, great shop.

Give CBRD a call.

Good luck,
Coach
