Amsoil Oil Filter Change

Did anyone notice the change from EA15k46 ish to EA15k13 for the Evo that's recommended on the website? The only reason I ask is because the K13 is TINY compared to the k46, so i just want to verify that it's the right part. I haven't attempted fitment yet, just wanted to hear from guys who already have it. Thanks

Yes, they did make a change. I called them about this very thing. They said that the original oil filter wasn't selling as well as they hoped and that they make 2 other oil filters that are similar in spec to it.

For whatever reason they still make 2 filters that fit. The one you listed is very small. I went with the EA15K20-EA (which is what one of their tech's recommended), it has more oil capacity and has worked great for me so far (also it is very very similar to the original oil filter).

I stopped buying their filters a while ago and went directly to the source to save money. They're basically re-branded Hastings filters.

Interesting given all the bragging Amsoil does about their oil filters - is this confirmed 100%?

I believe I read this on BobIsTheOilGuy a while ago. I might be able to dig up the thread, but once I read that I never had any reason to buy AMSOIL filters anymore. I still run their oil in my track car, however.

I still have one AMSOIL filter in the garage, maybe I should cut it and a Hastings filter open and do one of those side-by-side comparisons. Thing is, that's $25 I have to blow just to prove a point.

Funny, Kyoo, we've talked about this before:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...06-evo-mr.html

Anyway, after digging around a bit more looks like I was incorrect:

http://www.amsoil.com/products/donaldson/index.aspx

AMSOIL basically says their filters are rebranded Donaldson filters.

This site also confirms this:

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oil...reference.html

If you were interested in picking some up (I'm going to switch off of my Hastings at this point) here is their reference PDF:

http://www.donaldson.com/en/engine/s...ary/070617.pdf

Looks like it's Donaldson part number P550162 which is also confirmed here:

Get the K20, many folks running it on the 8, 9 and 10.

Just to clarify some data in this thread that is not tru. At AMSOIL we design and write all the specs for our filters.
We do NOT just go off and tell Donaldson to make us a filter.

Filters that leave my warehouse leave at under 10 dollars, that nonsense that they are 15, 20 or 25 bucks is not accurate.

I'm okay with being wrong, but can you at least explain why AMSOIL has a page dedicated to Donaldson?

My AMSOIL filter + a Donaldson filter and shipping is around $25.

Also, apagan01 do you have the spec sheet for the AMSOIL filter? What's its micron filtration rating?

We do for sure lots a business with Donaldson in the diesel arena for small and big haul trucks. Such as international, caterpillars ect...
As many know Donald's are the Porsches of the filter arena.

I know I have some stuff I can share on the filters just need to dig it up on one of my laptops, right now I am on my Ipad . As far as the micron rating it should be right on my website.

Well, I went to the source and this is what they had to say:

Noah;

The filter is made to our specifications by any one of at least three different manufacturers, and this may change so their names will not be divulged.

right, if I had known I would have but that's just what it said on the Amsoil site.. Should I skip the 13 and just buy a 20? Or run the 13 for now and just swap for the next oil change?

I just received the WIX filter for the 4G63 that I ordered. I went into the garage to see if my AMSOIL filter matched the Donaldson filter I had received last week since the AMSOIL Nano-Fiber is basically rebranded Donaldson patented Synteq set to AMSOIL specifications.

I was surprised to see that my AMSOIL filter was nothing like the Donaldson filter, but a complete clone of my WIX filter. Just looking at the exterior I can see that they share the same heavy duty base plate, housing and anti-drainback valve.

This isn't really a problem, with the exception that WIX openly admits that the filtration media in their 57092 filter is cellulose (paper). There's a good chance that this AMSOIL filter has a different media type inside. Since I don't have x-ray vision, I won't know until I get around to cutting these open.

Before anyone is quick to point out that the EA046 is a deprecated filter now, the fact that it's an old filter is irrelevant since the marketing literature on the AMSOIL page has not changed with the new filter. I would bet you $100 that AMSOIL recently ended/stopped/expired their contract with WIX and went with someone else. I'm planning on ordering a EA15K20 filter as well to include with my oil filter research.

The plot thickens!

once you open the AMSOIL filter there is an 100% chance you will find our in house spec'd designed synthetic media.

Let me hint you on your fishing journey, NO we did not end a contract with WIX as we never had one, WIX would not agree to get into the synthetic media business.

If you really want to prove one filter wrong from the other then test them through a true scenario or lab test
