First gear whine
First gear whine
Well recently i changed my fluid in my transmisson with redline product and saw metal shavings on a my drain bolt. I don't know what is considered to much shavings to be abnormal. Also i have a whine in first gear only starting around 2k rpm and up and slowly disappears. I haven't change my transfer case fluid yet or differential, but probably will this week. I have read other post that first gear whine is normal on evo's so just trying to get more info from everyone. I do have a ACT clutch that does makes noises at idle with the clutch pedal out and goes away when pedal is pushed in, and the famous coffee grinder noise on decel people talk about. Any info anyone has will be appreciated. thank you

First gear whine is completely normal.
And the metal shavings, it really all depends on how long you went without an oil change. Of course, longer you leave it in there, the more build up the magnet plug will have. That right there though, looks a little more then normal but like I said, it all depends on the millage of that oil change.

Also when taking off on a incline if i dont release the clutch quick enough it makes a loud rubbing type noise untill i fully release the clutch and gas it. really annoying, what could be causing this issue.

Similar thing happened to a Speed6 here. Seal was leaking from the output flange and pulled the drain plug and metal shards and shavings were covering the oil. The transfer case was toast and made a whine noise. The bearings were shot and the gears were starting to wear more abruptly.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that the evo 1st gear whines because it is straight cut like most reverse gears for extra strength and the other gears are not. It gets louder if it's damaged but it should be a little louder than the other gears.
