Got headstuds?
Got headstuds?
I was looking on the DIY pages and realized how easy it was to install headstuds. My Evo is not high horspower. Its getting tuned in a week and a half and I'll have somewhere over 300 and less than 350. Obviously I don't need them but its "cheap insurance" for 100 bucks or so. I was gonna order MAPs headstud kit because they have such a great rep and my two orders with them have been excellent. So my questions are:
Is it just stupid or unnecessary to do headstuds under 400hp?
Are ARP's worse/ better than MAPs?
Thanks guys.

If you have not done it before then there is a greater chance of not getting it sealed proper. You will also need a new headgasket, other misc items, lubes, and tools. It's not gonna be for $100.
i wouldnt suggest the 1x1 method, there has been cases of people noticing blow out and oil leaking around the head. if you decide to the 1x1 method i would suggest doing a complete leak down test to make sure the head is properly sealed.

Some people do it and have no issues, others have issues.
We recommend doing it the "proper" way (ie pulling head, change gasket), as we dont like to risk issues on our customers cars and prefer to do stuff the right way the first time.
Also, head studs are not really needed under 400hp.

I am looking for about 500whp on stock long block and coming across same question. I've seen a post on here where english has done cars up to 575whp i think it was on oem studs. Think alot has to do with tune I COULD BE WRONG. 1x1 method I wouldn't suggest got to think you are putting a different stud in and the tq spec is prolly different than a stock stud. So if thats the cause it would obviously clamp head gasket down different.
