I had recently blown my engine, got a fresh 2.3 build, got it back, and started getting it fired up and got this noise coming back with it after the build. The car won't idle or have much throttle response. My guess is my lifters are shot, but wanted to get some other opinions. The car has roughly 20 miles on it since the rebuild.

I was driving and it died out of no where and made this noise, you can hear me start it then dies.

 

it sounds like you broke a valve and running on three cylinders. You shouldn't crank the motor with the starter, it could cause further damage.

 

I was getting feed back that it may be a cracked lifter. Gonna replace them and go from there. My tuner also said it sounded like I was on 3 cylinders but hard to tell with iPhone audio. Anyway to check without putting the head?
