Just installed the hta 71. Drove on the freeway untuned, barely got into boost and it sounds pretty good. Getting my 91 tune in the morning, then have to go through like 5 tanks of e85 before my final e85 tune. boom boom it's all happeninnngggg

Man, I've got a 9 turbo waiting to go on my 03 and now I'm contemplating getting it upgraded to a 71hta now. How much of a power difference would there be vs a stock 9 turbo? I'm gonna be doing cams/injectors/Megan 02 along with my basic bolt ons, I'm sure a 71hta would be a good upgrade.

Ok so the turbo performed spectacularly. I gained 50 whp (on a mustang dyno!) with the hta 71, treadstone 3.5" fmic, and a megan 02 housing. This was on 91 octane fuel.

The same can't be said for my motor. Something is wrong with it. Before the install I wasn't making any power, I was at 267 whp on a mustang dyno. After the install I am at 315 whp mustang. This is a significant increase but still not to the level a motor should be at. The turbo did what it was supposed to do but my motor still wont make good power I will be running e85 here in a couple weeks and will post those results when I have them.

Overall I am thrilled with the turbo. It's response is crisp, sounds amazing and best of all pulls all the way to redline. I haven't gone through the canyons yet, (it is raining in the bay area right now) but my freeway pulls have been a blast. Just talking about it makes me want to go back out. I would definitely recommend this setup to a friend.

So, tell us, what was the peak boost level on that 91 octane dyno run?

I vaguely recall that Forced Performance does not offer a BB option for the 71 HTA, do they? Neither will they do it with a TiAl turbine wheel from either the TME turbo, or the JDM VIII RS turbos, right? I wonder why not? It would seem like a win-win combo for anyone wanting ultrafast turbo spool to go along with the increased compressor flow. I guess you don't get to have your cake and eat it too.

They don't have any TD05HR wheels suitably machined for the BB conversion, I asked...

My peak boost is 26 psi if I recall correctly. There is no BB option for the hta 71. I don't doubt this turbo's capabilities. It gave me alot of power. My car was just underpowered to begin with. After e85 I will be roughly where I want to be (370/370 mustang).

What is the general consensus from people who have used it on the spool characteristics of the 71 HTA? For, example does it spool about 300-400 RPM slower than, let's say, a stock IX turbo? Or, does it spool about the same as a BBK-Full, etc.? I am just looking for a rough idea or basis of comparison. Thanks!

Reason would have you believe that it would spool roughly the same as a BBK-Lite, which is to say within <200rpm of stock..

Sparky I haven't had a chance to test spool characteristics when driving the back roads(yet) but I will let you know after the data is collected. On the freeway I don't have to worry about being in higher rpm's to pass people. It feels just as responsive as my stock 8 turbo +/- 200rpm's.

Excuse me for hi-jacking your thread, but I am also trying to decide between these two turbos on journal bearings, but for a 2.3L street killer setup.

any advice would be appreciable.

I really enjoy Stock 9 turbo for now, but it really goes out of breath at high rpm.

The goal is to have similar response and minimal lag, but gain some power up top.

The only thing I am concerned about is lag. Im not a fan of push-wait-go high-rpm-power setups.

Wouldnt 73 hta be too laggy for spirited city driving or tight auto-X tracks?
