I too have had many vehicles with the 4G in it and all of them i have always done my own t-belts, etc. I am going to say it looks like an extremely old belt or one that was way too tight for too long. Hope no damage occurred. If not, feel very lucky.

That belt was too loose. I had just changed a belt a few weeks ago for a customer that was loose and it chewed away a noticeable amount of the Cam gears. Sounded terrible from belt slap. It also damaged the belt in a similar fashion.

deff bad install or crap non oem belt 4g63's a tricky timing belt change i always do my own.
