cam questions

hey gents i got a few questions here as to what i should be doing with my car. i have a few extra dollars i wanna blow on what else my car. right now all i have done is a custom made 3'' exhaust eliminating the cat, resonator and muffle. its 3'' from the down pipe back. i am looking to get cams for the car, along with adjustable cam gears. but before i do that i am ordering 700cc injectors, 255lph fuel pump and a perrin fuel rail. this weekend i will be port/polishing the head and intake. my question is, what size cams should i be going with. i was thinking 264in/272ext. please let me know so i don't have to write back on the forum telling everyone what not to do cause of personal experience

Mate, I would go for 264 inlet/exhaust. They are plenty until you are running serious output. Also they will help the bottom end a bit compared to 272s. Just my opinion, but us Brits do prefer a beefier mid range that top end.

i do back road racing and road racing with the car, so midrange is important, but high end is needed for the straights. i also 'daily' drive the car.

I agree with the same thinking - although for differnet reasons

I have fiund that on stock turbo / stock engine cars there is NILL differnce between the 264 and 272 cams on top end power and the 272's just idel worse

I am stil curious about 264/272 HKS vs. 264/264 on a stock turbo. Some people report a 10hp difference others argue that there is no diff. What gives? Different modifications? Cams degreed in differently? Timing, fuel or other tunings differences?

The AMS site suggests less torque down low for the 264/272 set-up but that's on a different version of the 4g63 with I believe a different turbo (correct me if I am wrong). Anybody notice a detriment in torque on the Evo when using 264/272? How do things change with a larger nozzle like a 10.5 on the stock turbo?

if there is such a difference in power then why would people prefer the 264/272 set up over the 272/272 set up.
there is a post above with a connection to a sight with the sound of a 272/272 cam'd evo at idle. it doens't sound bad at all. the rpms aren't that high either.
i'm gonna have the fuel to feed to matter what cams i put on. i'm not so much worried about that. i'm assuming go with a full 272 set up since they are the same price.
