how to ID a rear diff?

so...the rear diff on our car made noise ("loose bolts jingling", etc). I'm told the rear diff may be built. the diff is out of the housing. any way too tell if it's been rebuilt or is aftermarket without taking the bearing and ring gear off? possibly by viewing through the windows in the casing? lettering or stamps?

thanks.

it looks like your using shockproof in your diff? have you tried using different gear oil, maybe one slightly thinner to see if the noise goes away?

actually, this came off a shop customer's car. i, personally, have not driven the car nor head the "noise". so i honestly have no idea. i thought the blue stuff was odd, though. i've never seen it before. LOL

i guess i'll have to pull this thing apart to be sure. i'd hate to toss it my car just to find out it's got the messed up OEM plate arrangement.

besides. it's cheaper than sending it off for a rebuild. haha

just a heads up. If you go and switch to a different gear lube your gonna be getting the blue residue mixed in for a few fluid changes. So the first few changes will look funky.
