Question for all specialist ( EVO Engine mods )

Hi , i have a few question for those Evo specialist , currently i have the HKS 264/264 cams without Cams gears , Valve spring and retainer , is it gonna be fine ? or it will be better if i upgrade it ? I've seen many ppl from Asia they did all these together , so must be some reason .

Second question i always heard some tapping noise coming out from my engine especially when i rev to 1500 rpm , sound like the lifter noise to me but why is that , i figure only tap when it cold start but it keep tapping even i've been driving all day , so why cause this problem and how can i fix this problem ? i am running 16 psi now since my car not tune right yet .

Thanx for the input .

You dont need to upgrade the springs and retainers with your HKS camgs - however it can help your higher rev performnace by preventing valve float

Secondly - on the ticking sound - I suggest trying to change your oil more frequently

With 264s you'll be OK without valve springs, retainers. As long as you're not revving past 8000. Al is correct; better springs and retainers will defend against valve float. Cam gears would be a good idea though.

the ticking noise is common with all DSM motors... its something you'll have to live with or get your lifters adjusted but no point really cuz its gonna go back to that sound

I already avoided that Gas station i went to , now i am using BP 93 octane .

Oh , found out that ticking noise came out the most from the intake cam that near the cams gear .

Willie,

FYI if you car is knocking at 1500rpm with out getting under boost it's bad gas. But it you got under boost and did not knock it, well it's bad came timing.
