Do you need to remove the Flywheel pins in order to get it resurfaced?

The flywheel looks perfect with no hairline cracks or anything.

I wouldnt run it. A resurfaced flywheel will warp even faster than a stock one since it is less massive. It has a lower thermal load capacity.

So why resurface any flywheel to start off with? Lets say I do get an Act prolite flywheel, that has way less mass at 10lbs versus the factory 13.9 pounder. The Act will warp faster

ACT has a better material which is why it doesnt warp like the stock one. I am sure that MOST instances of lockout from ACT clutches is due to excessive heat from slipping the crap out of them warping the flywheel. Also the lower thermal capacity can result in a flywheel explosion and if you have never seen one look it up on youtube. It is no joke.

My buddy just had an 800mile clutch explode in his 2013 GT500 and it did $5000 damage and they voided the warranty due to supposed abuse. It was a floater that exploded which is complete bs and a defect for sure.

If you are talking to me, then yes they do. I am not too cheap and dense to understand why some upgraded parts are rquired and not afraid to buy them. I dont cheap out on parts that could cause damage to my car or myself either.

I would love to upgrade right now but I can't afford to pay another 300 for a flywheel. I am not planning to circuit track this car or go higher than 7k rpm. Just go to the 1/8 mile strip once a month. I have an act clutch and this stock flywheel held up perfect with it until the clutch went bad after many years. My car has 400whp.

That actually doesnt look tooo terrible. I have seen some HUGE heat marks on the backs of evo flywheels. Luckily they are steel not plain iron so they are durable for how light they are. I would say road racing wouldnt be too hard on a clutch but the launches at the drag strip are what create a ton of heat. I wouldnt do any back-back launches and overheat the clutch. Luckily my local track is always so busy it is usually at least 20mins but more like an hour+ between runs.

The op didnt have hardly any material removed. .006 isnt enough to worry about--certainly isnt going to warp any faster then it already did--which you can see was what anyone would consider very little. If he was talking .020+ or more--maybe something to consider--- the thermal load isnt going to increase on .006 decrease in thickness in this case-- otherwise you were rt on. .

That's what I figured, the guys at the shop said what they took off was a joke. He even asked me what it was made out of and if it was a performance flywheel since the machine was having trouble cutting it.

"cheap and dense" i can assure you im neither and i dont waste hard earned on things that dont need to be changed difference being i know what needs to be changed and what doesnt .
