I know that would be the best way to go but since the block is brand new and just put back in the car he doesn't want to take it out again. He manged to get the repairs on warranty so that's why there are stock parts in the engine again in the first place. A slight hone of the cylinders might be a good idea I presume.

What about my question on wether pistons and rods for the late model turbo Eclipses would fit the EVO? Anybody that could verify on that?

he should at least go with a factory overbore.... imo, never put new rings in an old bore. especially one that is gona be making some power.

Then what do you consider as an "old boar"? The engine has maybe 10 minutes of running time on it.

A used bore period... See, it's not so much just the bore. The new pistons are going to have different dimensions... that may, or may not match the bores to correct clearances. In short, he may be building the block again if you don't run the proper size pistons in the properly prepared bore. If the bores and pistons do Mic out correctly, you will need to get a good hone and Mic them again.

Hmm, maybe we should just go for the rods then. I think the stock pistons easily should be strong enought for his current setup. We could always change the pistons at a later stage if he decides to move to higher HP levels.

Then back to the old question, will rods for the later turbo Eclipse fit the EVO?

I'm not saying it won't work, I'm saying I'd rather not. If everything measures out ok, try it... sounds like your not afraid to tear it down again anyway if it doesn't work out.

If I were to send one of the stock pistons to say JE and ask them to make a forged replacement piston with the exact same measurements would that work you think?

I mean, if you look at stock cylinders and pistons no way they are matched individually at Mitsubishi factory. So if you custom make a piston with the exact measurements it couldn't be worse than stock could it?

Otherwise, just changing the rods would probably work ok with that kind of power (350-360 crank HP), as long as I can find some that fits of corse.

Call Buschur Racing... No need to fool around. (And get advice on how you should replace your crank when you upgrade your pistons/rods )
