aluminum rods in 4g64 questions

Anyone use aluminum rods in 64 blocks. If so have you ever had experience with 162mm rods. What are the clearance issues if any. Thanks in advance

I tried to have DB out them in my new motor he built for me 2.4LR but he said he never did it before and we ended up doing his standard rods.

Extreme clearance issues. We attempted it exactly once and it was on my 2.2 a few years ago.

To make them fit you cant run more than a 94mm crank and even then you grind on it so much that if the block is coreshifted you end up sleeving the oil galley.

156mm is a tight fit and still extremely difficult. If you used cheap aluminum rods that are dimensionally smaller than R&R, GRP, etc. they might fit but why put a weaker rod in the motor to get an aluminum rod?

I was hoping you would chime in. I called you and spoke with you about a long rod 2.2 setup. I've got 162mm Manley tt rods. I've got custom pistons for Assn ultra long rod 2.1 and I'm thinking of ditching the heavier rods for some fun aluminum rods.

Turbo trix racing built a member a LR 2.4 with alum rods I think his name was magic something if you look for the shep 6spd thread he started it I believe he was using a fp red but ER has spoke and they wouldent steer you wrong.

I ran a 4g64 2.1 GRP 162mm setup for 4 years. They weren't horrible for clearance. I'm not looking forward to fitting a 94mm/156mm setup in the next motor.

Horrible as in, some notching required or none at all?

Moderate notching, took 3 tries, i mocked up a piston/rod with no rings to recheck clearance took an hour and a half being extra careful with a carbide bit.
