RENN-ART: What Turbo Kit did AMS use to get 551whp? How much boost were they running when they got 551whp?

We used our own turbo kit which was also the first that I know of to get good HP and spool characteristics from a GT35R on an EVO 8. It consists of the following parts.

- Garrett GT35R w/ mid sized exhaust housing
- AMS built and designed SS header
- AMS built and designed SS O2 housing
- AMS built and designed downpipe
- AMS built and designed lower intercooler pipe
- 3" intake pipe

This is to be the larger of the 2 turbos that we are offering with our turbo kit in the coming weeks, the smaller turbo will still be of the garrett GT series of ball bearing turbos but will offer near stock spoolup characteristics with the ability to make an additional 50-100 WHP over the stock turbo. I hope this clears up any confusion about our kit.

why do people say greddy manifolds crack? why would a big performance parts company make weak manifolds that crack???

I have seen two crack. re-weld and it would crack somewhere else. Reason is not the quality, although its not the best in the world. But because their is no support for the turbo-manifold. the manifold has the turbo and wastegate dangling off of it, and the 25g is not exactly light either. so it tends to crack. I am sure if someone would make supporting brackets then it wouldnt crack.

then wouldnt tuners that exclusevly use Greddy turbos build their own manifolds if they knew Greddy ones suck?(aka: JUN) Why not just get a custom manifold from a tuner rather than greddy itself?

let me answer your questions.. i don't think kris will mind too much..

the top of the line kit mentioned above will be appx. $4k (just below), and the 551whp result was generated using an AEM EMS...

they did, however, reach 530whp with this kit and just a well tuned (using AMS tricks) Apex'i S-AFCII.. however, the torque was not as close.. the AEM shines very much in that respect!

You'd be better off asking that over at the AEM forum. GEMS is a similar type of software offered in Europe I believe. When the EMS first debuted it was based off of the GEMS software, but has been changed over the years to what it is today.

To be honest I would think the wire harnesses for the 8 and 7 are very similar. If I had access to the 7's wire harness side by side with the 8 then I could tell you if it would work. If you need to change some wires up, then get the fields harness and make your own harness and it will plug into the 30-1313 EMS box.

Do you have a PDF document of the 7's wire harness in english?

if i am not mistaken, it should work very similar with an evo7... but i can't say for sure on that one...

however, AEM has done all kinds of work on 4g63t engines in the past, so i assume they would already be pretty comfortable with the evo7..

since I dont work for JUN I have no clue why. But I would assume that its because they have to use the whole kit to represent greddy to the fullist or maybe its part of the deal between JUN and greedy to use the whole kit. Otherwise people would question why JUN is not using the greddy manifold on their cars and reduce greddy sales. Plus I am pretty sure that JUN gets the manifolds replaced for free from greddy whenever they crack, thats not counting the professional welders/fabricators that JUN has that can fix the problem in a matter of minutes.
