Hello, what's the downside of using rubber freeze plug? it will take me an hour to go to mitsu dealer to pick up the OEM vs local autozone has Rubber freeze plug.

the rubber ones are a temp fix, i.e. if you blow one out and need to get home. autozone should carry a Dorman one thatll fit the Evo, its part number 555-093.1. when you install it, use a socket that fits on the outside rim of the freeze plug and tap it in.

I would only use OEM, I have blown out several doorman brand ones. I put them in with retaining compound as well.

Better solution is to find out why your pressurizing the coolent system and blowing the plug if you have gone thru several....sounds like a bigger problem then freeze plugs that pop out. headgasket maybe-- I would start there.

When u start making power with these things and spinning them hard, the block flexs and some pressure is created from the high flow of the water pump. I don't have any blown head gaskets or am pressurizing the coolant system from something that is wrong. I put oem freeze plugs in and haven't had a problem since, so I would just take my advice and past headaches and use oem plugs . I've seen the same problem in other blocks that are making 500+ hp when they didn't have oem freeze plugs in.

If there's a NAPA near you, they have a ton of different size freeze plugs. They just need a diameter of the one you need.
