So, in Yankee speak, you will be running right around 22-25 PSI, right? What device will be employed to control boost?

I would say go with the 25# actuator. Either one will be serviceable for controlling peak boost in the 22-25 PSI range. It depends on whether you are going to want to run high levels of WG spring pressure or not. But, either will do the job of contolling peak boost at 25# on a slow spooling turbo like the Red. It is a JB Red I am assuming.

I would go with the 18psi wga and pre-load it to spike 22-23psi. The 25psi wga would work but it is better to have a wga that you can pre-load to limit the amount of boost it can bleed in higher rpms. You won't be able to pre-load the 25psi wga. Also don't waste your money on the avcr.

Mikey is right. The 18 pounder is best for running 25 PSI on your Red if you are willing to go to the trouble of modifying it(ie, shorten the actuator rod length), because you can run more preload than you would be able to run with an unmodded 25 pounder.

Preloading the actuator spring will pill the flapper valve down tight on its seat whereas an unpreloaded WGA will allow the flapper to crack off its seat and start lifting sooner. This premature flapper lifting kills turbo spool.

Is there a functional stock IX actuator on your Red already?

Both the FP actuators(18#, & 25#) cost $229 on Lancershop. Wow, I can recall when they cost about $120 I think.

Take a look over on the Private Evo 1-9 For Sale/Wanted>For Sale-Engine/Drivetrain/Power classified forum as there is a brand new FP HD 25# IX actuator listed for sale at the relatively low price of $150. It won't last long.
