The OFFICIAL Oil Filter Testing and Results Thread (4G63T/4B11T)
I cut open my P1(gold purolator) and found a perfect looking filter. No tears near the ends as BTOG forums have reported, and even perfect looking pleats too. The date code on the filter seems to say Oct 2013, this wrong because I took it out in Sept. 2013. I need to research the date code more. The wife's PL 14610 needs to be changed out soon so I update on that too.
Lol, maybe you just have a sweet camera...haha
And yes the media appears to be in great shape. Is one side of the filter black vs blue or is that just with and without flash. Regardless I'm surprised how dirty the thing gets after limited mileage. Sorry if you already mentioned this but what oil are you using? I'm curious if it was a racing oil with limited/ no detergents...

I'm lazy, it's my iPhone 5 camera.
Two of the pictures are with an LED flashlight and one without. I wanted the extra light to make it easier to see the media.
Oil is Pennzoil Ultra 5W30.
Switching to Mobil 1 10W30.

Haha shows what little I know about photography...the way the background was out of focus and all made that ish look pro
Yeah I figured it was the lighting. And normal oil ok interesting. Thanks for the followup

BTOG forums seem to report torn media for the Purolator gold. People seem to think a certain batch from a certain date is effected. I switched to Fram ultra(100% synth. Media) about $9 @ Walmart. I will this week cut open my Purolator gold and report my findings. Also got one(purolator gold) for the wife's car that will be taken off this week and cut open.
