Evo 8 exhaust manifold compatibility

Hey everyone,

Just a simple question about whether or not an Evo 8 exhaust manifold will bolt on to an Evo 4 engine, as I am pretty sure they are pretty much the same. Are the exhaust ports and bigger/smaller/different placement on the Evo 8 as compared to the 4? The manifold in question can be found here:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Lancer-Evolut...item564e848ba9

Also, has anyone ever used these cheaper generic stainless parts before? This thing is not going to melt or something if I use it once is it? haha. I know says it is made from T304 which is a pretty widely used stainless steel, just wondering if quality, if there is any whatsoever, is there.

Thanks

Yes, 4 through 9 all share the same exhaust manifold. Cheap stainless manifolds tend to crack after a while, so, if you're looking for an upgrade then buy a reputable brand or you could have your stock manifold ported which is really a good option.

Care to enlighten me as to what brands may have a little more quality than the cheaper ones?

I would like to port the OEM mani, but I also kind of want the tubular design for the aesthetics as well.

how hard would it be to port it yourself?

Based on my experience with rally cars, the stock mani proved very tough & won't easily crack even with extreme temperatures in anti lag equipped racing evos. I imagine, it would be hard to port it yourself if you don't have the right tools!
If you want an aftermarket tubular, I'd recommend AMS & JM Fabrications. The Tomei expreme is an excellent mani but not tubular in design, plus it looks great especially if purchased with its heat shield.

The Tomei is very nice, but it is also a little more than I think I am willing to spend. Although, you never know, this car tugs at my heart more so than the money in my wallet does, haha. I see you have a JDM as well, where do you find is the best place for OEM/aftermarket parts? possibly the same place you might find a new exhaust manifold?

You mean parts for Evos 4/5/6 ? everywhere except of the US & Canada :P UK, Japan, Mid East, Australia... Again, exhaust manifolds are compatible 4-9 so, it could be purchased from the US or Canada. Is yours still RHD? Last year I helped a friend in Europe source all the needed parts to convert his JDM 6 to LHD, most of the parts were second hand.
I attached photos of a Tomei mani that I purchased lately.

1. ToxicFab

2.Full Race

Those 2 are probably the high end market. Go to there websites and have a look, but there are plenty of good quality aftermarket mani's from venders most of which are on this forum.

Thanks guys,

And foxbat, yes, it is still a RHD, They are still somewhat legal in Canada so there is no need to change it over. By the way, that Tomei manifold is beautiful. haha

Your 4 must turn heads in Canada, I suggest that you get a 5/6 ECU (fully p'n'p) & you would be able to fully tune it. I recommend that you replace the stock pistons with either a later Evo or aftermarket pistons, the 4's are kind of weak & won't withstand above 17psi boost.

bty, I also converted my 6 to LHD, let me know if you ever need to do such conversion

Both 5s & 6s cam in LHD but without the digital climate control found in JDM cars. The photo is my JDM 6 which I converted to LHD using a Mirage dash (identical to the Evo's) gauge cluster, climate control, steering wheel, & stereo all came from the original RHD dash.
