Please Help! EVO 8 MR Making only 10psi boost
No problem. You see, if nothing else is wrong...That is if the turbo is working good, the DV is not lifting early, there are no boost or exhaust leaks, the MBC hoses are hooked up right, the MBC itself is working fine, and the flapper valve is not warped or broken, then it has to be WGA related.
Since you already tried two different gates and the low boost condition did not change, then to my criteria it has to be an insufficient spring pressure issue. Given that according to you all of the above are working properly you have to focus in on the WGA not having sufficient pressure. Either you preload your 14# Turbosmart or stock actuator more, or you get a heavier spring rate. Adjusting the actuator is relatively easy and it won't cost you anything. So, it is worth a try.
You have given us no evidence that the turbo itself is f**ked up. So, at this point in time it is too early to go out and spend good money on a new turbo.
EDIT: For my money, for boost to be limited to 10# the flapper valve is full open at 10#. So, you need to discover the reason that it is full open at 10#. All that you have to do is keep raising preload as per my instructions above. Just remember to disconnect the MBC and route a 4mm hose direct from the compressor tube's nipple to the WGA nipple. For added assurance you can flip the DV backwards to assure that it is not lifting at all too.
