As stated above, you may get the turbo for cheap but you need a full kit. Any full kit is typically going to run you around $3000+ new if its with a $900 turbo. Wastegate, manifold, o2 housing, downpipe, oil lines, coolant lines ($900 seems like journal bearing turbo territory), etc etc.
Sure you'll have a full kit then for future and you can just swap a bigger turbo in when the time comes if you want, but doing either an IX turbo or a stock appearing upgrade makes more sense right now in all seriousness for the power you want to reach. A T3 turbo at 400whp was a great idea in 2003. Today, the stock frame variants really rule at 400, 500, and even 600whp and in a few instances, 700whp.

I have decide to go with a ix Turbo ( I will rebuild it with a kit). As well as get some 272 cams, and slightly bigger injectors.
All this put me around my goal (tuned). And won't break the bank!!!
You get what you pay for with turbochargers. I'd save the extra money the but a green or red. the cheap chinese turbos are absolute CRAP. there's a local shop that has a big box of these turbos that have self destructed and they were all basically new. one lasted about 5 mins after start up, another lasted 5 pulls on the dyno. We're all Evo owners and what we do is push everything WAY beyond what the parts we're intended for. do yourself a favor and get all the other supporting stuff before you put a bigger turbo on it. Look at my signature. do you really need to go faster than that? that was 384whp. i was still using the stock injectors. buy good parts and the car will run great! get someone who know's evo's to tune it and it will be a BLAST! HKS, Injen, all the main-stream parts all JUNK! Buschur, AMS, STM, ETS, there's a few more out there that REALLY know what they're doing and when they design something, they pull their head out of their *** and make it so the car can make the absolute MOST power it can with that part. you might spend a lil more, but in the end it's gonna make more power and you are gonna be much happier. don't waste you're money on a turbo right now. you dont need it. go buy some bolt-ons and GET IT TUNED!!! and i cant stress that last part enough. The tune makes or breaks these cars and you cant throw a bunch of parts at it and expect it to go faster without the tune...it just wont.

But for the rest of us, it can ALWAYS go faster
I don't have a basically stock, slow car so I can't compete in the snail contest. That's not the point. You asked if he really needed to go faster than you have gone, as if somehow you've decided for everyone that that's fast enough... I just happen to think that's quite funny.

I don't think anyone is challenging your driving skills. Drag racing isn't something I'm interested in so my car has never seen a strip.
I feel like 385whp isn't enough, it just doesn't have the feeling of being pushed into the backseat. Add e85 to car and it is plenty enough for me

Does that help?

Translation "I consider low 11s to be slug, snail, frozen snot, tortoise, slow. I didn't like it when my car was this slow, therefore, I changed it. My car is now not this slow, therefore, I am unable at this time to participate in this contest for slow cars."
Does that help?

What has you car ran for a time making almost 800whp? 10.2 @ 155??? Just a quick look at your posts I dont see a thread about even going to the track....

Why would I not rebuild it.myself??? I have done this many times before and have never had an issue. Is the ix turbo different than an 8 ( rebuild wise, or 14b , or t25) lol I go through the turbos!!
I have my own means of tuning it well enough to drive it after installs as far as making sure all.my knock, afr's, duty cycle, timing all are under control.. then once I have all my parts. Will take t and get it fully tuned.
I appreciate everyones input... I don't think think all the main stream parts are junk though...maybe overpriced but some stuff is decently made.

some people cant afford to put $25,000 into a car. 11's arent that fast... that is true BUT for the work that was done to my car.... it ran just fine. dont talk **** about someones car about being slow when you couldnt run with them with the same thing done.

BTW, I never said that your car wasn't respectable for what was done to it... I just said I think that is slow, that's all. Do your thing, man. If that's fast 2 you, then so be it. Have fun with it and don't worry about it. We'll never know if I could run with it with the same mods because I wouldn't leave my car stock. But its fine that you do.
My times have never been posted because I have done a bit of grudge racing in our area and I don't want that out there.

For the little bit more than doing seals/bearings on a used IX unit. Why not send it in to FP for the 71 HTA compressor wheel upgrade. It only costs a few hundred bucks for the upgrade.($600-700). It's a no brainer.
Don't do the HKS 272's. Do either Kelfords, or GSC's.
