2.3 build questions on parts...

Hey I have done a lot of reading on 2.3 motor builds please trust I have spent many hours. I just have a few questions for a motor build in general for these cars.

First I know only crank and 2.3 pistons are different.

But I was looking for manley turbo tuff I rods and the only ones I can find are 6mm longer? Would this effect anything in the 2.3 build?

Any other rods that are built for 1000whp? I only have plans of going to 600whp but I want to build it right the first time...

I was thinking best compression for the 2.3 motor for e85? I was thinking 9:1 I think 10:1 is just a little too high. or is even 9:1 too high? maybe 8.5:1?

Was looking at Wiseco HD 2.3 but was wondering if anyone has any other ideas for pistons that are good to 1000whp?

And last what would the best bearings be? I have always used ACL bearings in the past just wondering if there are better options out there?

I pieced mine together using 4G64 crank, Manley H-beam, and Wiseco 9.0 HD. I don't plan on trying the seek peak HP and/or torque, so it seemed a good combination for me. For your build, it all comes down to what you want out of the car and what you will do with it. But to answer your questions:

1. Yes, TurboTuffs do come in a 150mm. The extra 6mm is for those doing the LR build, which will be good if you plan to rev high.

2. Plenty of rods on the market, and everyone will tell you something different. Overbuilding doesn't necessarily means its "built right." You adding additional weight by overbuilding the motor to handle power you don't plan on making. Lightest is best IMO.

3. No advice on compression. But it does help make power.

4. Everyone (very reputable forum members) I talked to told me to run Wiseco HD. I'm very happy with the selection. I know CP also make a 2.3L piston. Would have been my second choice.

5. Many people prefer ACL bearings. I opted for OEM Mitsu bearings.

My post is by no means recommendations on parts. Just what I did, and what I know.

hey man im building a motor as well like what your looking at doing. now as far as compression it all depends on how much boost becuase you can run higher compression and run lower boost (which lessens cylinder pressure and easier on parts. ) so alot of people want low compression but for me i went 10.5.1 on E85 now im also building a motor 4G64 12:1 compression E98 i know Ive heard thats two high. I look at it like I can make the same horepower on half the boost. it comes down to what you want but higher compression of course means more money in fuel.

Really I was reading people were having problems with BR stuff?

On a side note how are the regular eagle rods and manley rods hold up. I heard they were only good for 500 wanted turbo tuff rods and wiseco hd 2.3 thats what I was looking at at the moment.

Buschur has changed the parts they used since when you probably read they were having issues. Everyone running good is running a buschur. Just cause some people have bad experiences it doesnt account for the hundreds of thousands that have had great sucess with them. I have parts and they fit perfect. Always answer the phone and any questions you have.

The main think for me is how many top shops use the br stuff with great results.

Mellon, Stm, AWD and Br them selves

They wouldn't use buschur if it wasn't reliable.

Manley Turbo tuff rods and wiseco 1400hd is a solid combo. for a 1000whp car though I would use an aluminum rod and the 1400HD pistons. I would also do a lower compression since you will be running in the 50-60psi range for 1000whp. I am considering doing a high compression 2.4 but may just step down to trusty old 9:1 so if I want to run some pump gas I cam and with enough boost lower compression will make a lot of power.

Do not get the 6mm longer rods!! You need 100mm rods and stroker pistons. The pistons are already shorter to accommodate the 100mm crankshaft. (stock 2.0 is 88mm) I'm running the Turbo Tuff rods and Wiseco HD 9.8. I made over 600 hp on 93 pump gas. If you ever run E85, the extra compression helps.

150mm, not 100mm.

And what do all these shops have in common? Think long and hard about it. Ok I will let you in on a hint Buschur makes all there motors. Well I am not sure about Mellon, but I will guess yes.

I myself went with Map rods, and Wiesco 1400 hd myself and I know I will be ready for whatever I throw at it.
