popping out of 5 gear

So the car pops out of 5 randomly if your holding back on it you can feel the more gas you give it the more it pushes on back let off gas and it just sinks back in and goes... no grinding at all and doesn't do it in any other gear.. its a 05 Mr.. I know the 6 speeds have there problems so just seeing if anyone could help. I just picked up the car yesterday so havnt got to check fluid level but read that could be the issue , or the detents? Possible out of adjustment on shifting linkage?

Sounds like your trans need a rebuild. If it was a linkage problem you would most likely have problems with other gears.

And hopefully your whine is just the transmission and not the transfer case.

5th gear syncro is bad and not holding it into gear, send her in for a rebuild or do it yourself.

Definetly need to have that transmission checked at a shop. Sounds like you need a rebuild.

Not denying synchro.. or over hall but it only dose this problem when the trans is hot .. that's why I'm thinking fluid issue

Well then swap the fluid and see how it does..... but more than likely the 5th gear synchro is on its way out. It is a weak single synchro. If the car has been used for any road racing, it will happen.

The number one thing you should do before you do any sort of repair is check the fluid level. If it has plenty of fluid, then I would try changing the fluid. My Eclipse used to pop out of gear, my transmission ended up being low on fluid because I had a leaking axle seal.

You beat me to it. Same thing on my DSM, the syncro was marginal but the root of the problem was the fluid. These Transmissions build a lot of heat and friction, the fluid is essential. Check that first then go spend your next 4 paychecks on a rebuild if needed.

I had a bad throw out bearing once. The car would just randomly jump out of gear, you could feel vibration from trans thru the shifter. Good luck, sounds like you have an expensive problem.

What's the deal with your whine?

Louder/ quieter with speed/RPM/in gear/out of gear? etc

The wine is the diff... not sher why havnt got to check it out yet.... and I'm leaning away from synchro.. mostly BC it shift smooth and hold while cold .. + a synchro does not hold the car in gear it just makes for smoother shifting by getting the desired gear up yo speed before smashing her in there
